Thoughts and Opinions on Triumph Daytona 675

With what everyone else said, TONS of compliments. Ridden numerous inline 4s but nothing (in my opinion) sounds better then a triple.
Handles really nice. Put a Jardine on it !

Huh. Well I just learned something new. Would the aggressive position not indicate that the bike is not really suited for long street riding? I remember going to Wasaga Beach on my cbr250r and
trip coming back to Brampton was killing me, my back was killing me, my *** was killing me and my hands were pretty numb from vibration. Given Daytona isn't a single like 250r it would not
have that vibration portion, but then again if it's aggressive riding position would that not take a toll on your beak? You know what I will just compare bike seating positions on cycle-ergo.com pretty nifty tool for seeing seating positions and what angle is put on your knees/back/arms.

I wanted a Daytona but ended up getting a Triumph Street Triple for comfort and insurance reasons.

If your back hurts from an hour and a half ride on a cbr250 from Wasaga, then the Daytona will probably cripple you after half hour.

I used to have a Ninja 500, which is a similar seating position to the cbr250. I'd go on 3-4 day trips regularly and ride for 8 hours a day. There's no way I could do the same on a Daytona also while wearing a backpack. The Street Triple was a great compromise and I've put about 8000km on it since getting it mid-september.

If you don't tell them and don't get caught you can get away with anything, I guess.

...until you're in an accident and insurance inspects the bike. I'm not sure if they can deny you coverage but I'd imagine it'd make things very difficult at the very least.

They can and will deny coverage and will drop you. Next to no one would insure you after that, either. They could even pursue charges but likely wouldn't.

^^
Deny everything.
I bought a used bike, it was advertised and represented as a 600, uvip was clean etc... is all you would have to say.
Plausable denyability.

My favorite term. Burden of proof is on them, just don't go posting picks of the engine swap on Facebook

Hmm. I see. I looked up cycle-ergo's and damn I was amazed that 675r has worse ergonomics than KTM RC8R and in my view RC8R is you sitting on fairing and metal without much comfort. I'm not a big fan of Speed Triple. It is a good bike nevertheless, just not my cup of tea. I had few other bike options that I would use as backup, it really would come down how much the insurance would want to f*ck me around to insurance a bigger bike. For longest time I was thinking of getting 2016 CBR500R problem is, it isn't a much bigger improvement than my CBR and it's a P2, so it's getting Ninja 300 engine in a 500cc bike, bit of a waste.

Other options for bikes would be

- Yamaha FZ-07
- Honda VFR800F
- Suzuki GSX-S1000F ABS or GSX-S1000 ABS or GSX-750A
- Kawasaki ZX-6R

The FZ-07 and GSX-750A are pretty nice naked bikes and are pretty cheap in pricing. The GSX-S1000F and GSX-S1000 are also nice bike, but I'm sure I will have to pay good penny as they are both 1000cc beasts. And finally ZX-6R is going to be pricey but I can get parts for it quite quickly. Oh forgot the VFR800, it's a nice bike but it's a niche bike plus its bit overpriced for what it is.

Yep. Plus you can't tell with a naked eye that the engine was swapped, for all you know that's how the bike supposed to be. You will only see a difference if you take standard GSXR-600 and race it, then that extra 150cc will show there is a difference.

You can always say you got the bike of some guy you found on Craigslist and he sold it to you on a Wal-Mart parking lot.

I have a 2008 Daytona (bought new spring 2009). I've put 40,000 + KMs on it and love it. Only problem I've had is the regulator/rectifier frying and being replaced by Triumph even though my bike was no longer in warranty. It's a unique bike (don't see them everywhere) that looks good, handles like a dream, has a great powerband (lots more torque than your typical inline 4) and is probably the best sounding sportbike out there (IMHO).

As far as expensive to maintain/repair. Regular maintenance the parts do not seem any more expensive than Honda/Suzuki. I've been fortunate enough to not have dropped her so don't know about fairing panels and such.

As far as the riding position, it is agressive, but I find it no problem for 2-3 hr rides without a stop. A quick stop for lunch and I'm good for the ride home. I'm 6 ft tall with longish arms/legs and while the riding position is forward, the layout of the seat/tank/bars seems to work. Only time I don't like it is in rush hour traffic (I've got the underseat exhaust which doesn't help). Oh, and I'm over 50 yrs old.

I have had the 675 back in 2009 the SE white with the blue frame, loved the bike in every aspect! Like other people mentioned in this post- sound/handling and ergonomics the bike is a pure pleasure to ride!;-)

The Speed and Street triples are different bikes. I have the Street, which is the same chassis, engine, wheels, tank etc as the Daytona. The engine is tuned slightly different but I'll never notice the loss of those 20 extra hp riding in the street or touring but would on a track.

"worse" ergonomics is relative to how you want to ride the bike. The Daytona is a very aggressive riding position but rated and ranked very highly if you're on a track or sport riding. For long distance hauls, it's obviously not ideal but it's doable like RickT said he does.

I also considered the Yammy FZ-07 and LOVE the look of the one with the blue wheels. But, I was able to get an all-round better bike for the same price cash with the street triple buying it used. It'd be hard pressed to find a used FZ-07 since they're so damn new.

You can easily find beautiful used VFRs for $5000. A good all-round touring/sports bike that still has a sports bike styling.

The ZX-6 is going to be similar ergonomics as the Daytona, so if comfort for longer rides is top on your list, I'd scratch that one off yours.

If you can't handle the seating of the cbr250 stay away from every SS 600/675. The Daytona is one of the more aggressive rider position SS600's so it should be an obvious "no" for you.

He won't buy anything.lol

Haha. No. I know myself. I plan to buy something and then eventually just say "f*ck it" and buy something totally different, wont be surprised if I go into local Motorcycle store and come out with cbr1000rr. Just the way I am.
I'm trying to find something that has decent power and decent ergonomics, given that most of my riding is urban riding in Toronto, Mississauga and Peel Region, with rare trips to Wasaga and Ottawa.

Try a Miata ;)

It's an aggressive stance, much like an R6, but the 675r is light, nimble, amazingly responsive & the flat black carbon fiber is sooooo sexy!

I live in Brampton and closest dealers to me are Sturgress Cycle (Hamilton, ON aprx: 32km) and GP Bikes (Whitby, ON aprx: 37km)

Brampton to Whitby is not 37 km...

unless you're balling out of control the 675 is not a great track bike.. It's light and flicks amazing but as soon as it goes down ... $$$ Parts are expensive and takes longer to get them usually.. I just sold my 675r.. Amazing bike don't get me wrong, probably the sexiest of it's class .. (Pre 2012) I don't like the look of the lights on the newer ones..

correct me if i am wrong, but didn't Will Hornblower win the PRO 600 extreme championship on a 675?
