Thoughts and Opinions on 2017 Suzuki SV650A

I'm not a big motorcycle person. I know basic **** here and there, but that's frankly is it. So as my weekly ritual came around seeing what's new with Motorcycle manufactures I stumbled upon the SV650A. I was never a fan of the SV650's mostly because they looked odd as hell with no side fearing, and yet they had covered front. However the SV650A is a game changer, I don't know but I always loved single headlamps on bikes, but in the same time I'm not a cruiser guy. So when I came across the SV650A I was like "Damn, that's a nice looking buy". Performance wise? It's a 90 degree 645cc V-Twin, so it's nothing uber fancy.

I have asked for opinion on here in regards to the Daytona 675 and as many suggested I look into the Street Triple R, so now I got 2 bikes to decide between in the future. Depending on the prices of the SV650A and if its worth it, as compared to I3 Street Triple R.

What would you say about the new SV650A based on specs as of the moment?

Engine Type: 4-stroke, 2-cylinder, liquid-cooled, DOHC, 90-degree V-Twin
Displacement: 645 cc
Transmission: 6-speed constant mesh

Think it looks quite good. Should be quite a lot cheaper than an Street Triple, not really in the same class power wise.

For nakeds I'm digging the new Street Twin and the Moto Guzzi V7 II Stornello.

Don't expect it with V-Twin vs I3. But it will probably be cheaper on insurance vs Street Triple

Nothing. It looks like a fun bike. Underpowered, but that's good for insurance, I hope :D

They are going to be nearly identical on insurance

I got quoted on a Street Triple when I was thinking of getting one and the rates were very good.

I'm 22 (23 in couple of days) only and live in Brampton, I don't expect any mercy on insurance here. Hell, back when I had a 2007 50cc scooter some companies wanted $7K to insure it, ended up settling on $1882, after couple of months I upgraded to 2013 CBR 250R ABS with my insurance climbing to $3440.

I'm kind of a sitting duck at a moment, gonna bug my insurance truth to see what insurance is for cruisers and what insurance for street bikes like Street Twin/Triple. But I'm not expecting to get a bike at least till I'm 28-30 and have my full GM license. Oh and gonna get out of Brampton, since insurance here will never go down.

It is back to 1999. This is basically the return of the first generation SV, but obviously the 2017 has been improved in most ways.

So, you're just kicking tires now, and will continue to do so for the next five, six, seven years? Did I miss something?

Great looking bike! But then again I love naked bikes almost as much as I love naked women.

"If i was educated, I'd be a damn fool"

Regardless of your decision....your age + a new rider= insurance will be expensive $$$ no matter what you are buying! Be prepared my friend.

Oh yeah, I know that. But as you may know Brampton is just as high on insurance as Toronto. I was just starting this thread to get some feedback on the new bike, it looks rather good, but being a new rider I'm not very major on the specs.

Kind of. I got my 2013 CBR250R, good enough for time being until I get my full M. I was merely looking for opinion on this bikes specs. I have people telling my different things about V-Twins and Inline-3/4's so being a newb, I don't understand the specs as someone with some bike knowledge may understand. However the SV650A is the type of the bike style I love, naked with hint of classic.

Plenty of power for street riding! I had a Ninja 500 (also a V-twin) that was ugly as it gets and only had 50-ish HP. It was a blast riding around the city, highways and all-day riding for 4-5 day tours too. The only reason I bought a new bike (street triple) is because someone stole my Ninja 500.

I'd imagine it'll have better components than the Ninja 650 since the 650 hasn't been updated in a while (500 was discontinued in 2009...and was ancient anyway).

If you like the way it looks and the price is right, I'm sure you'll love it.

Fun factor usually isn't on a spec sheet...

How do you figure it's underpowered? What do you intend to do on it?

I can assure you it is one of the most enjoyable bikes to ride.
Nimble and great low and mid delivery.

It is not a track bike in stock form and it is not a drag strip record setter but it will hang with SS crowd on the twisties without a problem and you'll get almost double the mileage out of it.

It's not like it's a CBR125 when you are in trouble if you wanna pass a tractor trailer.

Ninja 500R was a parallel twin.
