Thinking of heading down to Harrisburg Pennsylvania this week-end have a few question

So as the title says...I'm thinking heading down to H PA this week-end, and meet a friend who lives down there, I've made the trip down there by car but never by bike. Leaving around 9 or 10 noon, the total hrs are 8 hrs plus stop probably 1 hr so 9 hours hoping to touch base by 6-7 pm.

This will be my first long haul ever...I may be going alone, a friend is still tentative if he can swing his schedule, but most likely I'm on my own, gonna be the drifter for the few days...

Have a question if someone can help out..

1) I don't have saddle bags on my Honda Shadow 750 so am thinking of either haveing a
back pack or a tie down bag on the back seat. Any idea how to tie it down I don't have the side grills on the back tire.

Any other suggestions or input for the trip would be apprciated, especially if you have ever done this trip.

We are leaving tomorrow morning, early AM to beat the border rush. Last weekend was NUTS, dont want to boil again.

PM me if you want to link up....

stay off the main highways once you get to PA... too many good roads to miss.

Stop at a tourist center in PA.. they have motorcycle pamphlets with a lot of the good loops in the area. 144 south from coudersport was an amazing road....

Try bungees/cargo net and a duffel bag. Don't do a backpack. You will regret it. :)

I gotta work on Saturday, so will leaving Sunday, I'm hoping to leave around 9-10 am Sunday, cause I'll be working late on Saturday so will need sleep in after a 18 hr day,,,I got a wedding/reception to shoot, on Saturday hopefully by 11 pm I'll be able to leave if not it may be 12 midnight.

Since it will be Sunday 10 am hopefully won't be that busy, since we'll be one day into the long-weekend.

Do you mean route 147 South?

I would say dont go so far east in NY, head straight for PA.. aim for Coudersport, PA, or Bradford, and head south east from there..

I am talking about the 44 which turns into 144..

I see it, so you would say take 144 down to i 80 rather than hwy 15

how much extra time would this put on the trip? any benefit to this one rather than the scenic route?

I concur - straight o Coudersport and it's actually very nice riding about 1/2 hour south of Buffalo. PA should be way less busy than NY on a weekend.
