How is this the cost of risk? This is the cost of stupidity - everyone of those accidents were driver induced.

I'm not sure what the point of this thread is. There are a million video's of accidents in Russia? :s


Also could have named this thread. Vodka hurts. :lmao:

First of all, let me clarify to you: I do not come from Russia, Russian is not my native tongue, and I only know it because I was born in an ex-socialist country and was required to study it 1-6th grade. However, I love vodka.

Now---are all of these accidents caused by stupidity? Or by vodka? I wouldn't say so. You've obviously spent the majority or all of your life driving on our nicely marked, wide multi-lane roads. Back in Eastern-Europe that luxury does not exist on most secondary roads. Also not all cars are equal, many are very old. On an 80km/h road, you'll frequently catch up with many vehicles barely pushing 60. So what you do---you pass, and you pass, and you pass, and that is how you move. It's part of driving.

Sounds like what you're trying to say is "cost/risk of driving in a developing country"
Regarding driving in Russia or any other developing country, it has its inherent risks for a multitude of factors from lack of infrastructure, policing, corruption etc. not just because they don't have nicely marked, wide multi-lane roads (as you put it).

Tempers flared in May when a top-of-the-line Mercedes S600, blue light flashing, ran a red light on Tverskaya Street – Moscow’s Knightsbridge – and rammed into a green BMW sedan. No one was hurt, but it turned out that the Mercedes belonged to a high-ranking official.

Ahhh, you're right about the multitude of factors that increase the risk of driving. I mentioned the "wide multi-lane roads" to show we don't need to do that kind of passing so often over here, but in "developing" countries it is much more common and people are kinda provoked to take the extra risk way too much. See, the more often you take risk, the more likely you're to fail, no? That doesn't make them more stupid, I think you should agree. The title of the thread came directly from the title of the video, I didn't make it up, however I still think it makes sense (The cost of risk)

I do agree. It's a very sad situation. Couple that with a large population of uneducated people and lack of driving instruction, it's a recipe for disaster.

All it says is that when you pass, make sure everything is all right before you attempt to pass. Every 4th accident in Russia is due to improper passing.
 
No need to watch a video from russia.

These are all common occurences on Canadian roads every day.

Just wait til first snowfall, and watch the ones without winter tires.

Maybe all of their crash avoidance electronics failed, probably a bad batch of Bosche sensors.

All the electronics in the world cant compensate for stupidity. Also no matter what abs unit you have, if you have worn out all season tires you're gonna have a hell of a time stopping :lmao:
 
This is true. Also, wider tires have less traction in snow than thinner tires. So all the rice boys in their slammed rice mobiles with the giant rims and rear spoilers on their front wheel drive vehicles will be sliding into curbs.

usually its guys with cars like that who always have winter tires or winter beaters, because body work is expensive, as is the rubber/rims you're referring to

I think you meant all the BMW's/Audi's etc... that have low profile summer tires on.
It's fun watching those cars spin as the traction control kicks in to keep them on course.
Funny thing is they don't realize the compromised reduced braking ability they have lost.
