The best soft saddle bags?

Was looking at the Nelson Rigg CL 850 for side bags, and un decided for a tail/tank bag. The CL-1035, CL-903, and CL-1070 all look good :(

Are these any good? Is there better available?

Soft saddlebags. All I can say is not Ogio's.

I had them on my VFR on my trip to Deals gap and they Ripped at the seems 2 days in. Had to wrap bungies around them to keep them together.

Your year VFR has alot of options for Hardcases.

I managed to find a Kit for a Top-box for my VFR. LOVE IT! Great for trips :)

Kriega dry bags are great and you can make them fit almost anything. I have the US30 and two US20's which I took to Germany for touring the alps.

I priced out that option, easily 3x the cost of soft tail bag + side bags + tank bag. Side/top mounts alone were $300 then each case at $300 :(

Thanks, will check them out.

Edit: Kreiga looks amazing, 10yr warrenty vs lifetime though...hmm

50L or 70L? Is the extra 20L useful for normal touring?

I totally understand. It can be quite pricey. I lucked ut and found the Mounting hardware and top case for cheap.

Keep an Eye out on Kijiji. You cant beat the sturdy, durability, and weatherproof-ness of hardcases.

Ah alright :) thanks.

On my "Want List" for awhile now have been the SW-Motech ones. They use a quick release bracket system to support the bags from moving around. They also have many SS applications that are specific so for me on a CBR RR it will be a no brainer. You didn't mention what bike you were looking for so I cant comment if they make them for your application.

They seem to have an application for me, 00 vfr 800. Only problem is I can't see pricing on their catalogue.

I've used a 30+20 for most purposes. In Europe I needed the full 70 as I was bringing work stuff for a conference after the ride.

I've got the CL-850's and I like them. They're solidly constructed and have a plastic stiffener in them so they hold their shape when empty. They're the largest saddlebags that I could find, and they're much cheaper than hard bags. They come with rain covers, but you shouldn't consider them waterproof. I use waterproof compression sacks inside mine.

If waterproofness is a must, something like a large roll-up drybag or a zip duffle might work as a tail pack, or something like a giant loop bag, although the fancier motorcycle-specific waterproof bags are about as expensive as a hard bag setup and a lot harder to open and close.

I have a Kriega US-20. Great bag. Has kept my gear dry and held up well. I find it a bit small though, so I pretty much only use it for hauling my laptop and lunch plus a few odds and ends back and forth to work.

I also have a set of Twisted Throttle Dryspec bags (found here at A Vicious Cycle): http://aviciouscycle.ca/MainPages/searchpage.aspx?keywords=dryspec. I bought the two-bag kit before a trip last summer. It had loads of room in the big bag for all my camping gear, and I used the smaller one for clothes, etc. It fastened down securely on my SVS, and was definitely weather-tested, with everything remaining 100% dry.

Both are "on the seat" type setups so you don't have to worry about the bags scuffing your tail section or side panels. Definite thumbs-up for both Kriega and the DrySpec bags, but if you need the room for gear, I'd lean towards the DrySpec (plus the DrySpec combo kit is cheaper than a 3-bag Kriega setup). Thumbs-up to A Vicious Cycle out by Kitchener too - great service.

Edit: The DrySpec bags are quite long; longer than the passenger seat. I have a small SW-Motech rack on the back of my SVS so the overlap onto the rack wasn't an issue. Without a rack these bags are long enough that they would lay on the tail section of your VFR.

Hmm...what about warranty on those? Did not see anything on that page.

Which ones? DrySpec or Kriega? Fortunately I haven't had to use warranty on either set of bags. A Vicious Cycle will surely answer the DrySpec questions; they were great to deal with. I think Oakville Yamaha is now a local dealer of Kriega bags (I ordered mine direct from UK because there were no Canadian or US dealers at the time).

I emailed these guys as this is who SW Motech said was authorized in Canada. They told me around 2 weeks and $320 if I remember correctly. In my opinion they are the best of both worlds soft and easy to remove but with the support of a hard bag setup.

They told me about $300 for just the racks then something like $400 for the bags when I just called.
