The Bad Drivers of Ontario Thread

I saw that on FB yesterday. Too many people commenting that the rider probably deserved it. I don't care what the hell happened before the camera started rolling, this is never justified. The rider should have stopped on the shoulder when he was behind the car and let that crazy moron continue on their way. You should never get into a pissing match on the highway, particularly when you are on your bike.
Where was this.

I agree with letting the car disappear. Outracing it would mean watching out for him catching up.

Two tow truck drivers racing to a crash drove on the sidewalk, crashed into the existing crash and took off. Thankfully they caught them both. Unfortunately, there is a zero percent chance that they get the appropriate sentence of no Ontario license for the rest of their lives.

Here's a good one. Someone in Oakland, California, finally had enough of the stupid "street takeovers" and trapped a bunch of the morons on the Bay Bridge. They only got a few of them, but they got a ton of their bikes.

Bad cyclist:

Dundas and Dixie yesterday

A large dump truck was trying to make a right (Southbound) on red at the busy intersection.

A cyclist going southbound on the sidewalk picked up a few yards by crossing Dundas on his green but well outside the pedestrian right of way. He then passes close to the truck on its left side and close in front of it.

I don't think the truck driver had a chance to see the cyclist but would be charged if he was injured. Defensive riding at its worst.

By "pedestrian right of way" do you mean not within the duration of the walk indicator, or within the crosswalk? Under the HTA bicycles are vehicles, not pedestrians. There are fines for them riding in the crosswalk and they aren't held to the walk indicators. While the cyclist is taking his life in his hands the truck is still required to yield to him, as it is to any vehicle with right of way.

The cyclist meandered through stopped traffic well outside of any pedestrian cross walk.

Then he continued past the front of the stopped truck very close to the truck bumper.

A number of years ago a M/C rider was run over and killed at, IIRC, Jane and Bloor because the truck driver obviously didn't see him. There is a blind spot in front of vehicles and the blind spot is massive with large trucks. They seem to be getting away from cab-overs.

Imagine the blind spot.

To get a motorcycle license we go to rider training where we are taught to look look out for risks more than regulations. Rider training isn't required for bicycles, e-bikes, handicap scooters, pedestrians or stand up scooters.

Scene 2 You are backing down a driveway and there is a van parked next to you limiting your field of view. You hit an e-bike on the sidewalk.

SIDEWALK: A place at the side of the road upon which to walk. We walk at 5 KPH. Scooters are legal at five times that. I friend has one that will do over 80 KPH. How far down the road does a diver have to look?

Scene 3 Assumption of driver visibility

Compare the field of view of a pedestrian, the optimum, a bicycle, close to the pedestrian, a naked motorcycle is pretty good, a Goldwing or other faired bike loses some points. Then come compact cars, SUVs and trucks for poor visibility in that order.

Compare a modern full sized SUV to a 1960 Chev Bubble top.

My mid-sized SUV has six comparatively massive pillars, large rear view mirrors plus four headrests. Add a few passenger heads and the visibility pie chart is massively reduced.

Add to that we have pathetic driver training and a culture of self entitlement.

Of course the government wants to spend money on more surveys and programs ignoring that if the above doesn't clue people in, another survey won't help.

In the political forum there's a thread on dystopia. It's here now.

To summarize you can be both legally right and "dead right."

A comment on another article said rider was coming in with some speed and car turned left in front of bike. Bike got on the brakes hard. Hitting the car with little or no weight on the rear tire caused the tumbling launch.
Reminds me of a crash in L.A. years back. High speed tumbling SUV, ejects the driver and first responders can`t find him in the dark. Eventually he is spotted way up in the tube frame of a big overhead sign, quite deceased. See the crash of MM93 in MotoGP the other day? Bikes tumble very well.

Beat me to it ....that must have been a few seconds of intense G-forces. Did the rider and bike separate at impact?? I assume.

I haven't seen any mention of the mechanics of the collision, but I have seen a pic of the (blurred) rider on the pavement, prior to ambulance arrival.
