Tank caved in overnight!

Went to my bike this morning to find the whole top of my tank caved in. Checked camera footage assuming someone messed up my bike. I discover after some research it can happen on my bike due to a faulty or stuck breather valve. As a known issue I'm awaiting Ducati's answer as to what they are going to do. Fingers crossed for completely messed up morning.

No that is a steel tank. I guess it could potentially happen to any tank if the breather were completely plugged. Some tanks must be weaker shapes to allow it.

That really sucks, but it's also kinda cool. That's a crazy picture, is that a 1000 DS?

When I originally thought it was vandalism I was losing my marbles. Since realizing it wasn't malicious, I have been laughing it off.

When you say camera footage, you have a camera pointing to your bike at all times when at home? Hmm...this isn't a bad idea for me to do with an IP camera...

Are you in a condo or a house with a garage/shed?

Across the street from my driveway is a business with whom I'm friends of the owner. He has one camera that faces my driveway and keeps a week of footage at a time.

Talk to whtlne .. he had this happen to his ducati back in Feb.

Exact same thing too, we thought it was blocked vent tube but turns out it wasnt.

Ducati must use some thin metal on the tanks for this to happen.
Good luck getting help from Ducati.

Looks like a defective design, as I have a few tanks with the breather blocked off. And they dont just cave in like that in a matter of a few hours...

One of the guys that went to Florida with us in February, had the exact same thing happen to his Duc.We were going up and down in elevation over the mountains. Not sure why yours did it in a stationary spot. Possibly a low pressure system followed by a high was enough to do that???????

DOH>>>>

Wow, if that happens just with air pressure changes! Maybe bring a bicycle pump with you to blow it back out. That really is a compromised design.

Whoa, I've heard of tank suck but my god that's seriously distorted.

I remember reading that Ducati have replaced many a tank because of this issue, which model is it, 900ss?

I know the thread was referring to their supplier who had issues with other bikes as well, I believe the supplier is a german manufacturer.

Make sure you get a hold of Steve Hicks through a dealer and keep us informed.

I thought Ducati had a recall for these tanks?

GP took pictures and submitted a claim with Steve Hicks last Thursday. They advised me that since I'm not the original owner I may be SOL, but they implied a 50/50 shot. I have since found out there are no used tanks because this problem was so prolific, and a new tank is $2000. So if Ducati doesn't fix it then I see what dent removal guys can do and enjoy the last Ducati I will ever own. ;)

I think it was a hot day and he parked it overnight and it cooled down
