Stolen motorcycle, reward to finder. (04 ZX636 Silver, spitfire paint job)

When they show up an hour later WTF good is that gonna do?

You need to learn how to talk to the police. There are some key words that will have them surround the are in under 3 minutes.

I do not condone making **** up, but if something is bulging from the guy's pants he might not just be happy to see you...know what im sayin? ;)

Better safe than sorry

:lmao:very good observation! ;)

If you're going to stake out and confront thieves, you had better be prepared to protect/defend yourself when doing so. You are really risking your life doing so. Chances are if you go through with it, the cops will then find something to charge you with, for getting involved.

The higher road would be to pay through the nose for comprehensive coverage and let them take the bike. Pay your deductible, and pick out a new bike. Peaches and cream.

The much more satisfying (theoretical) action would involve video cameras, a shiny bait bike, a few motorcycle enthusiasts willing to lend a hand to a "community watch" operation, some zip ties (in case a "Citizens Arrest" should occur, these are used to bind the accused until police arrive), and maybe a few "Security" type devices just in case the whole operation goes Pear Shaped.

If citizens can catch the thieves in the act, and capture it on video, in conjunction with the stolen van and/or plates, should lead to a conviction.

Toronto Police do not oppose citizens arrests, however they cannot endorse this inherently dangerous practice. For the same reason, I offer the solution only theoretically, and cannot be held responsible for any damages or injury resulting in acting upon the suggestion.

Ye Kuma, you are right.....

I guess i need to find a new project bike and a new inspiration... mine came from this PHOTOSHOPPED 2005 636:

You should not make legal comments based on ignorance.
Binding a thief is forcible confinement, there are two cases in court right now about this.

People need to learn about Canadian laws and watch a little less TV.

Even when placing him under citizens arrest for catching him red handed in a criminal offense? I bought some of those quick action zip tie handcuffs (with the ankle set as well, and the ankle to wrist attach option too).

thats from 2011... but on the plus side, the bikes may be in police auctions very soon...

you have to inform them you are placing them under arrest.. but i think there is a certain line you have to read to them otherwise it is forcible confinement.. and even then they will just fight you...i know i wouldnt stop for average joe trying to ziptie me... ever see hostel 2? people are crazy..

bump, just in case maybe someone seen some parts for 03/04 floating around... maybe kijiji or craigslist...

Sorry to hear about your bike. Just a few thoughts for you. Use Google Alert to follow "2003 2004'Kawasaki Ninja ZX636 Kijiji Craigslist"'and add whatever keywords you see fit.

Also, if there's anyway to access who's buying plastics for this year bike in Ontario via Amazon or EBay might put you on their trail.

Also, put up your own "Wanted"'ad on Kijiji for an 03 04 ZX636 "willing to pay top dollar." Say nostalgia or something as the reason. You never know, they may just bite.

Don't give up. Bikes are found years after theft as the thief becomes more comfortable owning the bike, he lets his guard down.

Good luck to you!

Sorry to hear OP's loss.

Just woke up to find my green 2011 ZX-6R gone from my condo underground parking (401 and Leslie) and searched here to see what could be done.

I had comprehensive but will be eating the deductible and probably traveling on four wheels until next season at least so it could be a lot worse.... But bump for OP and thanks to those who provided some input in the thread. Especially those talking about the condo moto thefts. I wish I knew that was a problem.

dude. i was just looking at the member pics thread, and your bike looked awesome. a shame, i really hope you find it.
the aircraft "top gun" look is unique and looks sick.

Im not in a condo, BUT here is a suggestion/question:

1) is it possible to install a motion sensor/camera in your parking spot (in condo) that informs your via cell phone
and records whenever there is motion around the bike???

2) arrange a meeting with all other riders in teh condo complex to workout some sort of parking agreement,
or to encourage the condo to create motorcycle parking... possibly blcoking a portion off with a gate???

just suggestions. cuz i can imagine how terrible the feeling is to walk in and see your bike is not there.
i know i would feel sick in my stomach.

let's find a solution. there has to be one.

I've been trying to build a system to do just that, but a bunch of the condo's I've tried it in have ZERO cell reception in their parking area, even the above ground ones :(

So far that means that my security device will only text you once your bike is outside of the building (assuming it hasn't been disabled by then) :(, but as soon as it gets signal it'll text you the pictures from as soon as someone stood up your bike, knocked it or moved it (uses an accelerometer and level sensor) so it might work good anyway :)

Hmm, yea the underground blocked signal thing sucks. and i've read some vans have "scramblers/blockers" if that is the correct term.
but keep us posted on your progress. good idea bud, and always appreciate innovation...

Just stick a fake 10$ security camera over your spot. Theft prevention is not rocket science

yea, that's what i was thinking but to somehow also get a signal/notification out. however, as mentioned by hpvchewy, can't get signal in underground parking.
but at the very least it would give better angle and footage (maybe even sound, to hear thieves talking, maybe stupid enought to use their names when talking) than the security cameras in teh parking structure... unless the few lucky individuals who happen to be right under the security cams.

Yep, that's correct. Most of them are GPS blockers (under $25, just plugs in your cigarette lighter socket :( ), and I was hoping my device could run on Wind's AWS 1700Mhz network (none of the blockers really do that freq) but no go, none of my peeps in China knew what 1700mhz was, so it'll be using a Rogers sim card ($85/yr for unlimited texting). The device is quad band so I hope that if someone is running a jammer that it at least gets signal from something :( If GPS signal is blocked it can use cell tower triangulation to calculate its position. Not SUPER accurate (usually within 300ft depending on how many towers in range).

(maybe even sound, to hear thieves talking, maybe stupid enought to use their names when talking)
Just FYI, you can't record audio without posting lots of signage up (would probably have to be at condo parking entrance and all around your parking spot) and even then the police using it or using it in court is very unlikely :(

My security device has a high gain microphone for when you tell it to "dial 911". It'll tell the 911 operator "I'm a motorcycle and I've just been stolen. I'm currently on King St. heading east towards Simcoe St. at 67 kph, in the town of Oshawa. The registered vehicle owner is So and So and his phone number is xxx-xxx-xxxx. Please begin tracking this phone and I will now enable the high gain microphone so you can hear the thieves. If you wish to hear my current location and direction hit 2 at any time. Live mic now..."

I tested it with the durham regional police and they were able to track it after only about 10 seconds of it calling 911. I'm not sure they'd ever do anything or if they even care, but heck, it's worth a shot :)

You can track it live from any smartphone or computer, overlay on google maps including last known location (in the event the device is "disabled").

Works freakin sweet so far, just need some software stuff finished like the GeoFence set up, be able to text it "arm" and "disarm" commands to enable and disable the geo fence and tilt/motion/shock sensors and also get the cameras working (they work when the cable is 1" long, but over 1ft and it gets no signal from the camera :( ). There's a camera that goes on dash looking back at the "rider", and one under the tail looking to the rear. If you want to get funky you can tell it to record the dash cam in 1080p and the rear cam in 720p at the same time then download the video to a laptop via USB after your track day is done ;) lol.
