After being cut off or forcefully share my lane I decided to upgrade my horn. I looked at all my options and decided to go with the Stebel Nautilus horn. They sell 2 versions I went for the bigger one. The one I got the dual horn point down instead of off to the side.
Here's a little write up on how I installed it on my Z750. This might be useful to the three other Z750 owners in Canada. Take what ever you want from the write up and use it for your custom install.
On the Z750 there's absolutely no room for anything so I decided to install the horn near the throttle body on the left side.
Ran a 14 gauge (12 would be better) wire from the battery to the location where the old horn was. From the battery I installed a 20 amp inline fuse.
then I covered all my wires in black heat shrink wrap. This way heat won't affect the wire.
I replaced the old horn with the supplied 30 amp relay and plugged the old horn wires to post 85 and 86.
I ran the wire from the battery to post 30 of the relay. Then I ran a wire from post 87 to the "+" side of the new horn.
Then I ran a wire from the "-" side of the new horn directly to the negative terminal on the battery.
To connect the wires to the new horn I used right angled insulated nylon female disconnect. I got mine at Sayal. That way the wires stay nice and tucked away.
Now that all the wiring was done I made a bracket that goes between the bolt holding the fairing and a threaded hole on the throttle body.
Took the compressor apart and painted it black then I put it back together. The horn and compressor just slides apart.
There's tons of room left
Here's the size difference between the original horn and the new one
On a scale of 1 to 10 for loudness, stock being 4, this one is a "HOLY CRAP THAT'S LOUD".
