Should dealerships cover tires under warranty?

 this thread

Dude wants warranty against a tire puncture.....jeeezus

Had it on some tires i had installed at CDN tire on the CAR was only $50 and was 3 year. I ended up using it a few times after a sparkplug destroyed the tire they replaced it without issue. Would pay that on a set of bike tires if it was offered

the whole point of my OP was just to ask the question/spark a debate on whether dealerships should offer a limited warranty program for tire problems such as this.

I'm sure you'd moan if the cost of such a program was added to the purchase price of the bike. Or you'd go to a shop which didn't offer a warranty program for tires becasue they would be able to sell the bike for cheaper. All in all I have to say this is a ridiculous idea of yours.

And the time to ask about warranties is when you're buying, not when a problem occurs with the benefit of hindsight.

We're talking about new vehicle warranty here

Probably not, however with cars I know if you buy tires at Costco and get them installed, they provide warranty on the tire. So in case where the tire is unrepairable such as sidewall punctures and etc, they will credit you the money judging from the fact of how much life you have left in a tire.

I once got a nail in my sidewall on a tire with less than 5k, they replaced it for free. Therefore, unless it's actually stated, no they are not required to give you any discount. Sucks I know, but it is what it is. Why not just get it repaired, if the damage is not that bad ?

It's common for car tires. Why is it such a stretch to imagine if for M/C's?

Many more cars sold than motorcycles. Volume can absorb the cost of a tire warranty program.

I don't think they should cover a puncture, and they won't. But a defect tire sure. I had a defect tire a few months ago, after figuring out it was the tire itself, Dual Sport Plus promptly replaced it with no hassle to me whatsoever. If it had been because I rode over a nail, I would not expect anyone to replace my tire free of charge, its just one of the elements and dangers of riding or even driving a car. Nails happen.

Auto tire manufacturers used to offer a limited warranty on new tires that were punctured/damaged before a certain amount of km. If it was rated for 40 000 km and you got a flat at 5000 km, they would discount a replacement. I can't remember the exact formula, but it was discontinued for whatever reason. Some chain garages offer similar "insurance" but you have to pay for that--it's not a warranty.

Not exactly the scope of the message I posted... But thanks anyway.

Like I said, we weren't *expecting* anything free or even discounted, but considering the bike barely has 1000km on it, it was a bit surprising they wouldn't offer anything whatsoever. Yes, tires are a wear & tear item, obviously, but still would've been nice to even offer a 5-10% discount given the circumstances. Actually, we've frequently been given discounts at this dealership because she and I bought our bikes through them, and that's without ever asking for it, so this was a bit surprising.

And like I said, I'm not trying to drag their name through the mud (nor would I accomplish doing so if I were to try), the whole point of my OP was just to ask the question/spark a debate on whether dealerships should offer a limited warranty program for tire problems such as this.

NO!

Retro: I get that. I realize road hazard warranties are unlikely for M/C's. I was responding to the other poster that was shocked and amazed that anyone thought a puncture might be warranted at all.

whats more amazing is that they apparently will replace a tire if its plain worn out,

They wont replace a worn out tire but will replce a tire with a nail or screw in it. I'm not going to spell it out for you but they do replace the tire(S) WITH NO CHARGE. They cant be bald but have to have 2mm of depth i believe.

matthew

You bought a 5 year tire warranty for $425?

Last year I rode over 35,000km. So thats 2 1/2 tires @ $375.00 (simple math I would think:lmao: )

Just saying...... dont hate on all Harley riders, I use to ride SS till a back injury put me onto something more comfortable.

ohh 2 free tires a year is all good in my books, and that lasts for 5 years with no limit.

I disagree.

You must be the guy in the "I saw you" thread parked outside of Cosco getting your $79.95 Cosco special motorcycle tires. Some things are worth spending $$$ on, and the part of the bike that keeps you on the road is one of them. A couple others that come to mind would be suspension, and brakes. It may be ok to plug a car tire as if that one blows or fails you still have 3 other tires to help you control and stop. No way would I drive around any further then needed with a plugged M/C tire. ok just for emergencies but thats about it.
