Scrap motorcycle disposal

How does one dispose of a junk motorcycle - will the dump take it if I drain all the fluids ?
I have access to one with a blown motor and questionable title that I'd like to strip for a few parts and get rid of the rest.
Any ideas ?

There are some things even the scrap guys are reluctant to take. As an example I put an unusable stripped aluminum bicycle frame in front of my house. Sat there for weeks, no one touched it. Any other metal I put out (specially aluminum) is gone in less than a hour, sometimes a couple. That frame, I eventually cut it up and tossed it. My guess is the stolen (which it was not) aspect.

Options, take what you need and list anything that may be useful to someone else on here for free. For whatever is left, you can try the out front scraper route, maybe you can disassemble/cut it up so it is really scrap not a vehicle.

If it's junk, does it really matter?
The law says if it's a vehicle, the scrapper is supposed to get an ownership (every scrapper I ever knew collected ownerships for this purpose. No one ever checks VINS... you just need that piece of paper)
If you cut the steering head off it, it is no longer a vehicle.
If you're going to leave it at the curb, put a price tag on it. Honest people won't take it... but if a thief things he's scoring a thing.....

I thought people just posted them on kijiji for $1000 as project bikes?

No scrapper drives past our house but I have one I call when I have scrap metal and he takes it away (free for me). I haven't tried with a vehicle.

I've seen some of the crap that happens in scrap yards. I don't think a title (or lack thereof) would be an impediment to many of them. Things like fridges coming in charged and scrap yard brings it up to dodgy scrapper who then hits the refrigerant lines with an axe. No more expensive refrigerant recovery needed.

Call a scrapper or one of those ‘junk car’ places advertising and they may come and give you a charitable receipt for it.

I saw a FB Marketplace ad for scrap metal. It turned out to be two part motorcycles in rough shape. Major pieces missing and what was there looked rough. Art project at best.

Scrap aluminum goes for a decent price but the hours of stripping of parts is a pain unless you go volume. There are scrapper videos on YouTube. The presenters usually don't have front teeth.

I'm with bitzz

CLEAN, un-contaminated scrap aluminum goes for a decent price.
There isn't much CLEAN aluminum in a motorcycle. The engine has steel bearings and shafts, the wheels have steel spacers, the frame has bearing inserts. They have to run it through a crusher, then past magnets... all that process costs money
Don't count on any more than the "tin" price at a scrapper (did you know there is a price "scale" at the scrapper's? "Tin" is the lowest price, "cuttings" is usually the highest price. A modern "car", is less than 45% metal, some closer to 30%. A scrap car is "tin". Basically anything mixed is "tin")

Off topic but I always wonder what kind of money the neighbourhood scrappers make off the aluminum / metal people leave out by their front driveway.

Sometimes things are gone within the hour. I’m convinced local guy has neighbours spotting for him.

When I scrapped my old pool heater with a giant copper heat exchanger I figured that one piece should get him just under $100. The rest of the crap he took (the remainder of the heater, bbq, steel wheel, etc) probably got him almost nothing. I was happy with the deal. He probably gets a better rate from the scrapyard than me as the scrapyard knows the random people aren't going to be frequent customers nor shop around so I figure they'll give you a crap rate as people will accept it.

We have a (very poorly thought out) business near us which basically lets you demolish items for a fee. Supposedly a stress reliever. I think it’s a lawsuit in waiting but whatever…if you have one near you just tell them you have something they can break.

I don't want $$$, I just want it gone.
