Riding with Pets

Hey guys, just curious if anyone here takes their pets riding? I'm guessing the majority will be dogs, as I doubt Kitty would have a great time clawing to the front of your helmet :tard:

I have a small chihuahua that I will be grabbing some Doggles for soon. She already enjoys rides on my bicycle in a chest carrier.

I've been curious about this. what's the chest carrier? guess it wouldn't work at speed or be safe?

what does riding do to a pets ears at faster speeds, is it not dangerous for them? I've considered taking a givi 52L top box and cutting a hole in the top lid, adding brackets for a leash, but all of it seems a little risky and possibly very bad idea. but I know there's members here that ride with their dogs.

Obviously the animal would have to be comfortable with it, but I've seen a lot of pictures/video of people taking dogs of all sizes on their bikes. They wear Doggles, jackets, sometimes helmets and are strapped in.

Seems if the right measures are taken, as with anything riding-related, it shouldn't be too bad.

It's a risk managmenent thing.

If they are going to be exposed to wind they should have doggles.

Then you have several other challenges:

1. How do you keep them on the bike?
2. How do they get away from the bike should it go down? If a smaller pet they could go with the rider and that's probably not too bad, depending on how they're attached and how the rider tumbles or falls.
3. How do you protect them from the damage they will be subjected to if you do go down, i.e. dog helmet, dog jacket?

All of which is irrelevent if you only consider them to be property and are only concerned about the $1k replacement cost. But if you love them like family then why would you treat them differently then a human you were going to take for a ride? Which leads you to those three questions above.

And, FWIW I would never take my large dog or small cat on my bike.

I think this idea is just as silly as listening to music while riding, but hey to each their own

I have been thinking of strapping my cat on the passenger seat and take him for a ride...

Never really did it tho...

I thought about duct taping my dog to the gas tank and go for a ride....
for obvious reasons...it never happened. :D

Been considering myself....just gotta convince the dog it can be done.

Wer're looking for one for our dog. Small day trips only. Haven't decided on one yet. If anyone has used one of these, please post review.

Have a look at the Pet-a-roo. I ride with Suzi in a large.

I rode with my cat in a backpack once. Was terrified the whole time that if I were to get in an accident I'd kill it. But I needed to take him to the vet, and that was the only way.

Everyone knows cats like dual sport motorcycles. :p
