Fishy...

Riders Choice has had a certain kind of reputation over the years.

all the reviews i read, most are not good.

i spent some time in there and as fun as it is to bash, i cant.

i got discounts on gloves

i got a great deal on tires/install

they replaced the entire side fairing of my then bike b/c they made a mistake when drilling the hole for a frame slider. i never had to ask, i didn't have to argue, they just did it for me.

sounds like OP should have gotten a receipt, or at the very least checked the receipt to ensure it showed the items he purchased.

I'm going there today to shop for a new Arai RX-Q helmet! Woooo!

I am an Operations Specialist and one of my duties is to deal with customers. I will tell you that my experience with RC is good and bad. I have been there to purchase boots, a helmet, grips, a chain, stands, and oil.

Marco, a technician there, is a great guy. Although he does not deal with customers, he sure helped me greatly. He’s a great person, and never undermines anyone. When I get to RC I go straight to Marco to say hello and talk.

The owner and the individuals sitting behind the counter on the other hand, are not so great. I have heard them undermine someone that put sliders on a track bike. I have never got that positive customer service experience. I never get the “Thank you for your business” or the “How have you been?” I also attempted a purchase of stands that were back ordered. The guy behind the counter stated that my stands will arrive in 2 weeks. 2 months go by, and I still did not get a call. Fortunately, I did not put a deposit down

I went there quite a few times with no issues, however the last time I went there to order parts (doing work on bike myself) the respons was not so good.
I was doing a valve job on my Suzuki. Ordered cover gaskets and seals, plugs and oil change items. John was very helpfull but passed me over to the counter parts guy.
I was told by the parts guy when checking the parts #s for my items that Quote: I would be better off going to a Suzuki dealer as this is going to take time. I explained that I live in Oakville and the nearest dealer was in Brampton so I thought I would give the local shop my bussiness. Parts were late comming in which really didn't bother me but they lost me as a customer due to the respons from the counter guy.

Ive dealt with riderschoice serveral times. They have a great selection. Customer service is great when there isnt 10 customers lining up at the counter but hey there is only so much a couple of counter people can do.. Usually when the service is great, the retailer gets busy. And when they get busy......well people just have to wait. To bad, so sad ...lol its bad when you check out other retailer's and they are dead, and you are still neglected.

If service was that terrible @ riders choice they wouldnt be busy. When you stop by in the off season when they arent that busy, you usually have someone coming up to you saying hi seeing if you need help :) . In terms of the service side of things, they have done work on my bikes in the past and i was totally happy with them, everything done , was done as promised. Nothing more nothing less! :)

Rider's Choice has been great with me. They've given me a discount on pretty much everything I've bought there, and the service has been great. I love those guys!

And any publicity is good advertising that they don't have to pay for. Despite all the bashing, the place is still crazy busy and they don't have to post much in the dealers forum. My favourite bike and gear shop around!

Just as an FYI.

Any shop or dealer that is not an actual Suzuki dealer can't order parts directly from Suzuki. To get parts they have to order them through another Suzuki dealership just like you would. So he wasn't really lying, if there was a dealer close to you it would have been easier for you to go directly to them.

Yes, you can't get OEM Suzuki parts from Rider's choice. They are not a Suzuki dealer.
I don't know why people struggle so much with this concept.
Actually Rider's Choice is not too far from my home in the west end...
I need a new shop - Scotty is gone from Kahuna, and the place has fallen into disarray.
There was a little (pregnant?) girl trying to not help me last time I was in, and she's clueless.
I'm going to go by Rider's Choice and check them out. I guess I can still get OEM parts from Kahuna if required...

I had my 24,000 km valves check (major job) done there last year and they total f'ed it up, left a pinched valve which slowly leaked engine oil. Unfortunately, I'm not the most observant person and a few weeks later, someone noticed the oil leak over the slide of my bike and diagnosed the problem. Riders Choice refused to take responsibility ("oh it's been a few weeks so how do you know it's from our job blah blah blah, sorry your SOL") so I had to re-do the valves (another $800), obv with another shop. I watched them take of the gasket and give it to me, showing me that it was damaged from the pinching. And I've bought tons of stuff from RC before and used them for oil/tire changes too :(

It's a struggle to find a good mechanic, and I've tried them all. I just hope the next one doesn't screw me over.

Rosey toes!! FTW!!!

Went last week to look for the dainese back protector. The younger guy behind the counter couldnt have cared less when anyone walked into the store. When I asked a few questions as simple as 'Is this CE compliant', I got a blank stare. Also when I asked a followup question I got a deep sigh. It almost felt like he was doing me a favour by gracing me with his time. Total dick. This was my fifth time there, and only time I left empty handed. Dont see myself going back..

I don't know about anyone else but I too don't feel like a customer when I walk into Riders Choice, the owner acts like he doesn't even need your business, he talks down to you and acts like you shouldn't even be asking questions. Also, everytime I go in, they tell me I need something for my bike even though it was replaced a few months back. I just don't get the same feeling I get from walking into somewhere like Parker Bros or even Rosey Toes. I avoid RC like the plague.

That has also been my experience. Of the many times I went to RC, I'd say one in three were somewhat disappointing. I always got service, but I also have questions. Should I go with Suzuki or K&N oil filter? What kind of tire should I get? What kind of chain should I get? What kind of sprocket? True, they are noobish questions, and I generally have an idea of what I want. BUT I am asking the opinion of someone that saw thousands of bikes, and should have these answers ready. And sometimes it felt like they were talking down to me because I did not know exactly what I wanted or needed.

I'm not sure what to say, because you're right, everybody has good and bad days. But if your business is dealing directly with the public, you'd better make sure you have a positive disposition. And you have to force it if you have to even if you are the owner.
