After many years of use, my thin cables are finally about to bite the dust. I need a replacement with sound quality on par with this model. I definitely want cables that are stronger than my old Etymotic's, but I'm looking for something that is easy to get on and off with the helmet. I used to have a pair of the Shure e5's which I found awesome sounding, but difficult to use with my helmet.

Please no bluetooth suggestions or reasons why/why not to ride with music, because these will serve triple duty for me; I use them every day to either run with or work out in the gym.

Essentially I need good quality, noise isolating, in-ear headphones.
Cheers!

Etymotic has the new hf5 buds to replace the er6i. I had a pair for a couple of years until I snagged the cord. They were fantastic and stronger than the er6i buds that I had previously.

I replaced my hf5 broken ones with the newer mc5 buds. They were cheaper and I figured the quality would still be good. I find audio quality to be good but they don't fit as well as the hf5 in my ears. When these ones die I'll get another pair of hf5 buds.

TL;DR: Etymotic hf5 (or hf3 if you want them with iPhone control and mic) are fantastic and a great replacement for your er6i buds.

You might want to look at another set of Etymotic's, they have some reasonable prices for upgrades

I haven't tried the Shure's but have tried the etymotics. I had a cord come loose so I picked up a pair of JBL Reference to give them a try as I found them cheap and they had good reviews. I've been very pleased with them and I use them for the same 3 reasons as you do and honestly don't want something too high-dollar when there's a chance I'll snag them at the gym or around the bike.

if you can find a set, logitech's UE700's are really nice. i use them with comply foam tips. sound awesome, and block out noise like earplugs.

I love Comply tips, use the long ones on my Er-6i`s

Good suggestions. Thanks!

The Etymotic HF5's seem good, but I'm concerned about getting them on with my Shoei RF1100.

I'll look more into the UE's and the JBL's.

at the bike show I remember there being a vendor that had some quality custom moulded in-ear headphones. They weren't too much more than a pair of Shure or Bose. I'm hoping to get them this year.
