my FZR600 has no rear spools, so i use one similar to you original pic. never had an issue.
Rear stands - anyone use one without spools?

Well with all the great input from everyone I decided on a forward-handle Pitbull rear stand from Blue Streak. Overkill, but I know the quality is there, so I'm sure I'll be happy. Thanks all
I'm sure you will be happy with the purchase. No need for another rear stand unless you end up with a single sided swingarm bike.
I use spools with axle stands. Does the job. Takes a bit of Technique to get them on though.
