Rear Shock Rebuild

Hello All.

I have a RM250Z that I use mainly just for pottering around in the Ganny. Its the 2 stroke Enduro bike, not the RM-Z250 MX Bike.

I rebuilt the motor over the winter but I noticed that the rear shock seals were weeping a little and that there is a pit on the shaft. Can someone recommend a good shop to take it?

We live in Trenton but my wife's parents are in Mississauga so I'm in the GTA once a week.

Thanks

Check out YouTube? It wasn't much, but I replaced the oil in my front forks and now I would feel more confident changing seals. It feels great when you do it yourself. :)

I've had John Sharrard do some stuff for me in the past. He is very good. He was even able to rebuild a vintage shock that was never designed to be rebuild-able. The only problem is that his shop is in the middle of no-where :)

Maybe someone else can jump in here - but in the GTA I believe that Pro 6 may do it, also Z1 but I'm not sure.

I hear Pro6 is really good at rebuilding shocks. You could take it there.

Talk to Rob at the counter. Good guy. He won't steer you wrong.

^^^ +1

He does good work, and can bleed it and recharge it properly. I have also heard good things about Pro 6 but have not used them myself.

If the shaft has a pit in it you might as well buy a new shock

It's not that bad. The shaft is still available. It's $106 from Suzuki. A OEM replacement is around $1300 so new will definitely be more.

We also send lots of hydraulic components out for hard chroming so that may be an option as well.

FYI. If you are looking for a bit of an upgrade Racetech do a 19mm replacement shaft.

No idea how much it costs though.

If you are interested in learning how to do this yourself, the ODSC is having Rob Lang do a fork/shock tech session next Saturday (Feb 27) in Mississauga.... 2pm at the Hilton (formally Delta) 6750 Mississauga Rd. Free tech session, it is prior to their annual meeting.

All. Thanks for the recommendations.

Took the shock to John and he was able to source a replacement rod directly from KYB. He also revalved it for my (heavy) weight, bled it properly and recharged it with nitrogen.

Super helpful guy and clearly he knows his stuff. Pricing was very reasonable. Even with the new rod it was about 1/4 the price of a new one that I would have to start setting up anyway.

Highly recommended.

BTW. I have celiac so the Kawaratha bakery is right on the way :)
