Cause we are ..... we just want the suzuki riders out there to know their place ......(I am directing this at one person out there :P)

That's a serious time.. dangerous track for motorcycles, too. That guy has balls.

It's funny though that it takes this long to set these records on a superbike, but Nissan takes a stock GTR out there and beats that time on a damp track. And Chrysler annihilates that time with a production SRT10 ACR by 10+ seconds. Given the choice, I'd much rather take a fast car around the Nordschleife.

Fast Car: 100 Grand
Fast Bike: 15 Grand

Too bad you cant buy the skill and the massive cahones!

That R1 is absolutely NOT the best bike for the job. So big props to Carlisle.

Really? What would separate one modified litre bike from another? Modifications primarily focused on suspension/weight/tires. Short of a MotoGP bike with 250 hp, I would think most modded production litre bikes would be close. Would a modded S1000RR or Tricolore be any further ahead? What would you select?

I'd absolutely say that a modern bike with ESA/TC/ABS would cut that time down, especially on such a long and 'rough' track.

A lot of bikes are much better than a 05 R1 for the job of racing. A short-stroke engine with a vicious and difficult power hit in the 14,000 rpm range and a lack of it in the midrange hamper that bike, but it doesn't end there. A very front-focused weight and handling bias that is rough on front tires, a bit heavy overall and just generally not the fastest bike of its era much less by today's standards.

A post-2010 RSV4, ZX-10R, S1000RR, 1198S (well, maybe), CBR 1000RR, GSX-R 1000 will all rip that R1 a new butt even if you put a fair bit of mods into the R1, which he did. That rider on one of those bikes and some time to work on the setup (plus perhaps a few of the mods, such as the lighter wheels and full system?) should find his job much more rewarding.

For the street? Who cares... only the leg-humpers.

That said, what would you think a target lap time might be with one of the better bikes, and an equally (or better) skilled rider, plus no traffic......a 6:50 or 6:45? All bench racing of course. Bikes haven't had it easy putting in good laps at the 'Ring in recent years.

Out of my ***, I'd guess a modern bike with electronic goodies should be able to better that time by 5-10 seconds.

Then again, if he didn't have traffic he'd probably do 5-10 seconds better in the first place!
