Quitting for 5 years, anyone do this before?

I was bored...entertaining thread. I'm not advocating to break the bank. HOWEVER, please spend more than $1000 on an engagement ring. When I read that, I thought it was a joke. As for rings, you can't get much for 1K. Good luck with your decision. After all, riding is a hobby. You can always come back to it.

The wife or the bike; I know one never complains

Dirt bike for sure! I stopped riding on the street for two years and picked up a dirt bike. Get a cheap 2 stroke because it's easy to work on and parts are cheap. You'll learn a ton of skills that can be applied down the line and if a rush is what your after it provides it and a great workout. Most tracks it costs about $30 for a day of riding and even racing is relatively affordable.

I have another street bike now along with the mx bikes as I did miss being able to just go to the garage and ride but considering you only did track that shouldn't be much of an issue.

Will costs someday make riding a bike like riding a horse? You put it out on the farm and cage out for a weekly romp. We don't ride horses to work, around the neighbourhood etc. (Rare exceptions)

Is it still summer in Toronto or did the soap opera started early this season?

Some women are not all about materialistic things.. Like I said in my earlier reply, we spent the money on a downpayment for house instead and bought modest bands. To us, a house that we've lived in for 16 years now and raised a family in was a better investment than a rock.

I'm the oldest of 5 kids, my youngest sibling being 14 years my junior. I was watching them since I was 10. Taught my wife how to change diapers. It's not easy, but nothing that should scare you. And we all make mistakes as parents. For me personally, my life began to make sense when my first was born. All the best.
**thread hijack over**
Btw OP (I can't @ you because I have no effing idea how to spell it) my wife sounds very similar to your girl. Low key. Doesn't spend on frivolous things. Makes more than I do....just wanted to fyi so you don't think I'm criticizing.

I made my 6 month old drink some pool water today, his life is more dangerous than mine leaving with me :)

In regards to engagement rings, it's about what makes the other person happy, I couldn't give two craps about where the tradition or scam came from, it's something one person decides to do for the other because it makes them happy, period, no one elses problem.

Try blowing in his face before you dunk him next time.

Oh, and you have to sing Grand old Duke of York, so he knows when it's coming.

I had an "in" for engagement rings. Wife though it was huge at the time.

She told me it's okay to pay less OSAP so I could ride, my pride and responsibility can't do that.

Yesterday she asked me how much a really good track bike costs...then said she'll start saving so she can help me get one in 5 years.

I started saving for the engagement ring a while ago =)

^^ congrats! She's a keeper.

Forget the bike... see what you can do with the $200 to make her even happier :)

I hear ya......stupid internet porn.

What bike is that? Seen some guys booting around on similar in parks at Lakeshore/Kipling and looks great for cottage.

Teenagers riding 2 stroke off roaders with tiny wheels and unplated. Guys looked huge on them. For booting around would be great if it would support my weight.
Those are known as pitbikes. They range from 50cc-150cc, and don't last long if you beat them. However you can buy a cheap one for $500 and kill it and not care. Keep in mind legally you still require a plate and insurance off-road and many of these Chinese bikes are unable to be properly registered. (Not the Csc macdoc linked, it's street legal)

Mimico that 250 Motorcrosser would scare the hell out of you on the dirt. :D Weight to power and the traction are astonishing on a race bike like that.

Then there is the YZ250 2 stroke or the Honda CRF450F you really want a scare.

The hard core Harley guy we bought my kids CRF450 from was scared to death of it. Effortless wheelies in all gears. It's the bike Honda used to shut Yamaha up in the motocross wars.

They are a world away from the kind of trail bike you want for the cottage. A rider can get serious thrills and fitness in motocross even riding weekends and the costs are not high.
I'd stay off pit bikes.
A 250 a few years old will hold it's value ...Honda's in particular but some of the KLX and Suzuki offerings as well....and loads of fun.
That's why we bought two TT250s for 3 riders.

Pitbikes that’s the ones I was thinking of! Looks like stupid fun but not sure it would even hold my weight (170lbs). This would simply be for the sole purpose of mucking around near the cottage as we have the Simcoe County Forest there and I see bikes ripping through there. Plus this would have an added bonus of having the ability to throw it in the wagon and drive there! Always felt they’re too small for adults though. Plus want to learn to wrench a bit more on the bike so these look like a good option for that.
MacDoc those bigger ones are definitely out of the question, both financially and space wise. Too much bike for what I wanted to do. Gettinga bit mundane to commute back and forth on the bike so thinking of options on the cheap.

Thats exactly why we decided on the 250s - they are still able to commute but lots of fun off pavement.
Kid retired his FZ8 for season ( he's riding m Strom for he moment ) but looks forward to the 250.

In reality the 250s don't take up much more space than a bicycle and can easily be bumper mounted.

At 300 lb they are so easy to handle and designed to be tough for the occasional come off.
