Purchasing Helmet in the states

Bought mine from a California vendor (eBay) a while back when the RF1100 was introduced, and the prices were ridiculous here in Canada. Graphics Shoei RF1100.

Couldn't be bothered with driving to shipping to buffalo, taxes, duties, wasting time, gas etc. Just had him ship it USPS to my house.

Came to my door with no extra charges/duties. Saved a pile of money from buying it here.

I noticed at the bike show that Shoei at Riders Choice is cheaper than US pricing, so do your homework locally before you go running to US online retailers.

Hopefully we are comparing same models. Two questions I always have with helmets at RC ... 1) which year model are they? 2) how were they stored?

US retailers seem to always have the newest models/designs available. Last time I visited RC during their sale event (2011) they were selling 2009 models. plus, the boxes looked pretty faded (a white box looking yellowish) That would turn me away, even if the helmet's $50.

I ended up buying an Arai Corsair V after getting quotes from Studio Cycle ($1300), GP Bikes ($1185). Ended up getting it from SBTG for $817 - including $40 shipping via USPS and the duty I was charged.

These online stores that people talk about.... SBTG has an actual store that you can walk in. Revzilla has a store in Philly.... so is it that our Canadian stores have to take a look at their business model? SBTG's store front is pretty small (just a tad smaller than RC) but they have a clean layout and have more selection and sizes on the racks that'll shame some of the big stores here.

Don't get me started on the fake sales with our local stores... doesn't matter what the prices are when all that's available are L, XL, XXL or US 48+. C'mon... not everyone here is 6'5 and over 200lbs. Stock some S, M, US 38/40

I do want to give kudos to Tyler at Sturgess. Awesome custoemr service and competitive pricing. I'll be purchasing more items from them this coming season.

I bought a Shoei X-12 from the states and saved lots, it was going for between 899 and 980 + tax from local retailers, I paid $604.00 taxes shipping all in from California.
I really would like to support local guys but it's hard to swallow 500 bucks.

What I won't do is go into a dealer and use them for a fitting room and then shop in the US for a deal.

same here, I will take a change in getting the wrong side but I will not try locally and then buy it from the States; completely unfair to the local dealers.

Not sure what is this shipping restriction mentioned. I've purchased both Arai & Shoei from SBTG. They shipped USPS so no additional brokerage fees, just duties and HST. Both brands shipped to my door within 10 business days, and the one time wasn't affected by the Canada Post strike either.
