Porting bell landline to cell phone

I am looking to port a bell landline number to a koodo mobile phone. The only service from bell is the landline. Internet is coax.

I ported cell phone numbers to koodo a few times. How does it differ when porting a bell landline? When porting mobile numbers the process is easy, you just fill out a form online at koodo and the other provider plan gets automatically cancelled. It's actually advisable not to contact the old provider and cancel the plan because that might lead to the phone number being lost. Is the process the same with bell? Do I need to contact them?

Don't call the company you are porting OUT from at all. When the number is ported out that account will automatically be closed.

I've heard of it happening where people think they're doing the right thing to call and "cancel" an old line only to have the line cancelled immediately...at which point the number isn't eligible to be ported out any longer.

We did this earlier in the winter. Actually, it was to Koodo's home phone service, which is really a cell plan that comes with a cellular base unit to which your landline phone connects. But, you do the exact same process as porting cell number. Koodo (went to a store) did all the work and we never contacted Bell at any time.

this would be the #1 reason to switch
