I don't know if this is a big thing here but there are lot of YouTube videos on it. Many look staged but the question is the legality of what is a form of booby trap.

Most are glitter bombs and cleaning the car interior would be hard. The blue foam is amusing to watch but not if the person setting the trap has to pay for it.

Folks, let's try to keep the thread on-topic...

AI is going to give your the 9" long crooked finger for saying that.

A finger..?

Damn, I was hoping for... Never mind.

Y'gotta be pretty ballsy/desperate to steal boxes off of people's porches these days...
Almost everyone has a camera of some sort...

'Just another example of the downfall of humanity... people are sh_itty.

There’s something so satisfying about watching those videos. I don’t know what it is but I can watch them for hours.

Camera doesn't matter. On the infintesimally small chance that the police investigate, and the even smaller chance they bother pressing charges, thr courts will wrist slap and the cycle repeats. There is zero disincentive to stop a life of crime in Canada once it starts.

As for OP's question about the legality of booby traps intended to cause harm in Canada, the answer is no.

The law is pretty clear:

- 5 years imprisonment just for setting the trap
- 10 years imprisonment if the trap does cause harm
- life in jail if the trap causes death

You may believe your booby-trap is harmless if all it does is cause a loud noise or emit a foul odor, but if the person panics as a result, has a heart attack, or trips and falls and gets injured or dies, a moderately competent lawyer will find it quite easy to have your nuts in a sling.

Even in US States where there are Castle Doctrine laws on the books, booby-traps are still considered illegal due to the potential harm it causes to innocent bystanders like helpful neighbours moving your package, kids or pets.

*** silently puts away catapult person trap.

But but.. what if you frame it as a prank and with hidden camera?? Anyone on your property instantly becomes an actor! :ROFLMAO:
