Over night trip suggestion

I have the week off and am looking to do an over night trip, ride all day, one night in a hotel, get back the next night. From GTA. I'm not looking for sites, just decent roads and scenery, maybe some curves, but I'm on a Vulcan so not looking for knee dragging corners. I prefer 80KP/h roads, not interstate, and I am comfortable riding all day, suggestions? Thanks!

How about a nice little tour to Ottawa via this route? http://goo.gl/maps/DWdwP

While in Ottawa, stay at Webb's Motel... good inexpensive rooms and there is a great Japanese restaurant across the street (at least there was a couple of years ago.) http://www.tripadvisor.ca/Hotel_Review-g155004-d2202073-Reviews-Webb_s_Motel-Ottawa_Ontario.html

On your way home, you can stop at the Diefenbunker just outside Ottawa ... The atomic bomb shelter that was built to house our government in the event of a nuclear attack. It is a museum now.. well worth seeing! Here is a map for the return journey.... http://goo.gl/maps/hBOuD

Here's the Diefenbunker website... http://www.diefenbunker.ca/en_index.shtml

Try the Muskoka / Huntsville area. I just spent the weekend there and had a blast on the local roads!

Pennsylvania. Allegheny area.

You can easily do a loop of Elicotville (219) Allegheny forest (666) then cut back West, stay in Renovo or St Mary's and next day head back ( first west 555 via to Renovo if you stayed in St.Mary's) up 11/144 to Ellicotville again)

It's fantastic (relaxed-pace) ride. better than anything en-route to Ottawa.

This looks interesting, can you give me more details on the route from Toronto?

Thanks Ike for Ottawa suggestion too - I've been up that way though not as far as Ottawa, but it's a possibility for tomorrow. I'm going to check the forecast, we're supposed to be getting rain tomorrow and these two routes lie in different directions, so I'll go opposite the wet stuff if I can!

If you end up going to Allegheny, do not miss out on Tamarack Rd.! Kettle Creek Rd. good too but pavement not as good as Tamarack. 666 is a must, too. And get up on the Hyner Mountain. Beautiful view. Cool road to get up there. (Hyner Vew Rd.)

St. Marys is a good place to stay. Not much in terms of entertainment but lots of hotels/motels to pick from. 2 bars and one "club". 24h Walmart for all your needs (the town's got like 5,000 people, how does the place stay in business?)

....
Actually, just read the "Vulcan 800, no draggin'" part - you may wanna give Tamarack and Kettle Creek a rest then although the scenery is neat but definitely some sharp turns.

If you can spare 2 nights, I would highly recommend Vermont. Some amazing roads there. Smuggler's notch, route 17 to name a few.

Rode through Vermont years back, great roads! Plan on going back but for now I only have the one night. Will do the PA roads this time.

Nother for Pennsylvania.
Ottawa is tough for a single night as the first stretch to get to anything nice is pretty long and does not compare to PA for scenic and hilly until you get into the Mount Tremblant area and Laurentians past Ottawa.

Leave at 6am - in PA by noon at leisurely pace except slab to the border.
Then many nice routes for half day on each side -
Coudersport is good to base out of with a number of half day trips from there.

Only issue - don't ride late due to deer.

Finger Lakes is a another area your could do and catch the Corning Glass Museum - well worth it and be sure to catch lunch....yummy.

One classic route is 144/44 down to Renovo then 144 South of Renovo to Wykoff Run - ending at 120.
Number on alternates back to Coudersport then. I'd do that second morning as you could include part of your home bound run.
First day maybe stay a bit north around 6

Thanks for all the advice guys. Will head out tomorrow, probably head for Renovo. Familiarized myself with the routes and will try Tamarak Road and 666 for sure. Hopefully I'll avoid the rain on the way down! Thursday looks great though, I'll stretch out the time and come home late if I have to.

Thank again!!!
