Oil extractor

Mowers and gen sets and compressors, shipping from China with anything in the crankcase is a no no for frieght companies, it’s frightening how many miss the huge orange or yellow tag on the ignition that’s says , FILL with oil before starting machine. Now we get cut off switches…..

When I got an air compressor from ihl, they had done the oil and pdi. Book says to run with the drain valve open for 20 minutes iirc, then close it and let it build pressure. I have very little faith they follow that procedure. Compressor still works well so maybe they did or maybe they got lucky.

I'm pretty sure my Genny came with a little bottle of oil as an extra reminder.

My FIL filled his compressor full of oil (like, to the top completely) because he didn't realize this oil was colourless and since he didn't see it in the sight glass he just kept going. He called me saying it only runs for a short while then shuts itself off. I think the fill amount was around 200ml and I got over 1.5L out of it when I drained it.

You guys change the oil in your lawnmowers??

Hell I think I need to also then. Haven’t done it in 4 years.
Exactly. I think the only time I changed it was when the mower went under water during a backyard flood.

I started with a manual extractor, then got an air-operated one. It's nice to have stored vac and an on/off valve which my manual one didn't. I was constantly pumping trying to get the very last drops. But I recently got an electric one. Kind of getting tired of smelling like used oil after an otherwise clean oil change. When the oil level drops and it starts sucking up air as well, it spurts inside the container and that gets exhausted out when manually pumping or blowing air through the venturi. I don't think electric has that problem, but we'll see.

I just bought a pneumatic one, it was fantastic and a huge time saver.
Having a large compressor helped. It was a vevor one from Amazon.
Lawn mower and wife's car done, doing the tractor today.
Not having to crawl on the ground as much and not dealing with a pan full of oil are two things I won't miss.

Not sure how old my mower is but I'm pretty sure it's only oil change was after it got submerged when my shed was flooded.

I think mowers are like old Toyotas, you don't really need to change the oil just make sure to keep them topped up.

Most mower don't get enough hours to actually need an oil change for a long long time. 150 hours oil change is how many years.

My push mower runs for almost a complete tank of gas per use.
I figure 1-3 hours if I'm really cleaning up the property. I get oil at cost so figure I'd give it a treat after 10 years of use.

My dad was relentless on oil changes and grease jobs and just cleaning up equipment. Every piece of equipment had a timetable. His thing was service is cheap , repairs are expensive. Also being a farmer having a machine down when you only need it for a week was pretty hard to work around . You make hay when the sunshines….
