off duty cop tries to run me off the road for lane filtering....

talk about serve and protect....on my way to work at 6AM I filtered through dead stopped traffic at a light, a few lights later buddy pulls up beside me and keeps on looking at me and my bike, but not saying anything after the light turns green he speeds past me and cuts me off, so I change lanes in order to avoid his bumper and go around him but as soon as I do that he keeps accelerating and starts going into my lane, I slam the brakes to avoid getting hit, we stop at the next light and as im getting of the bike to give him a piece of my mind he flashes a badge, and tells me I should watch my lane changes, and the next time he sees me filtering traffic at a light he will give me a ticket..........I told him I would prefer a ticket than his bumper putting me in the hospital or worse and added a few choice word in the middle.

I would have asked for his badge number when he flashed it.
 
Hang on...so you go into other vehicles lanes....but when someone comes in to your lane..it's a problem?

Sounds to me like he was just filtering too.

I'm not for or against splitting or filtering...but pick a side!

Yeah.... reported him to his dispatch... hes not on duty and once reported if he starts trying to say you were filtering its gonna look like hes just retaliating.

I have twice this summer had another bike come filter past me.... I am on my bike too. Like really? Its rude enough to the cars but to other bikers... wtf.
 
Had a similar problem 6 weeks ago in the city, except I wasn't filtering I was using the lane that had parked cars in it. Off duty officer decided she didn't like that and she decided she wanted to play chicken with me. The chicken game ended in stalemate where her options were to run into my bike or the back of a cube van. After jumping out of her car and aggresively coming straight at me, screaming like a lunatic she flashed her badge, and said she was calling dispatch. I told her to go right ahead because I would love to discuss it with her supervisor. Took a photo of her plates - which took a little while because the entire time she was trying to block the camera and she was straddling the front wheel so I could only move backwards. Went straight to 51 division and reported it. A few weeks later the complaint process was complete resulting in a lovely addition to her personnel file

She even ended up talking to the detective handling the complaint BEFORE the complaint reached his desk. She already knew what she did was wrong.
 
I had a cop get out of his car to remonstrate with me at a set of traffic lights once. I told him leaving his motor vehicle with the engine running was illegal and also unsafe to his wife and children still in the car. I then proceeded to tell him to **** off and left him stood in the middle of the street as the light went green. Unfortunately there's a minority who think driving recklessly in their civillian cars is acceptable behaviour when it suits them, just to prove a petty point.

OP didn't unsafely cut anybody off. There are safer ways of dealing with this, like calling dispatch.
 
This thread isn't even an hour old, and already it is totally apparent why society in our country and ON specifically, (and GTA even more specifically) would never embrace filtering for the sense that it makes if it is done properly. So far the OP has indicated a pretty non-aggressive stance with their filtering, even when threatened with this *******'s CAR! Physically threatened with a vehicle over 5 times his bike's weight. Paul, I am amazed that you claim the offduty/ ******* was only 'filtering' also. How in hell can you see it that way, when he forcibly (and for no reason other than to bully and make a you-ain't-gettin'-to-work-sooner-than-me statement) went into the OP's lane to squeeze and intimidate?

Comments like this ooze evidence that you all have spent too much time in GTA, sitting in traffic alongside too many drivers who shouldn't even be behind the wheel. You all are fed up with an over-saturated roadway infrastructure and your patience/attitude has adopted a more child-like stance, rather than realize that if smaller vehicles can filter through and get to where they are going faster, simply because they can, you can't stand the idea that someone else's life might be just a tad better for that split moment in time. It is a quite simply a very selfish attitude.
And if any of you doubt that, and support some bully cage wannabe cop using his ****ing CAR (and badge) as a road weapon, then you get what you deserve. Hopefully the badge was a fake.

Unsafe in who's opinion? If the OP lost his balance while in my lane and fell under my car...is that safe?

I'm just saying..pick a side...if you're going to go into another vehicles lane.....then don't ***** when others come into your lane...play fair.

Hope you're trolling 'cause this post is the dumbest I've seen on GTAM to date.
 
Last week I stopped in a WalMart parking lot.. pulled out a shotgun and started shooting into the air.. An off duty cop came over, flashed his badge, and told me to stop it or he'd get me arrested.

What a *********!!! I hate cops.

You certainly have lived in a country all your life where filtering is not legal, but what the heck has rudeness to do with that???? This is the problem with Canadians who think if I cannot do that (in the car) why should he/she on the bike. Somebody decides to filter, it's their choice, possibly their ticket. Are you going to call people who go by you in a left lane over the speed limit rude as well???
 
I'm more fed up with the sense of entitlement in this city..especially when it comes to motorcycles and lane splitting filtering....

Everyone who rides thinks they have the right to lane split....but if a car creeped up between two bikes sitting at a light...there'd be hell to pay...right?

I'd actually be all for lane filtering...and I've done it...and I know it;s going to piss people off....so when it's done to me by either a car or a bike..I expect it and don't ***** about it. I ride defensively.
