Set up for a ride on Thursday with buddy on Aprilla. Glad he got Canada when he did ...we had fun doing Skyline Drive on my fourth Vstrom 650.

Latest idiocy from the US …
Would have cost us $180 US each to drive that next year ….and they wonder why tourism is down 30%

By contrast, all national parks in Canada were free to access for everyone last summer, and will also be free for the coming 2026 season #ParksCanadawww.cbc.ca/news/canada/...

I thought Canada was bad for feeing people to death.

While the US is raising fees, Parks Canada is offering free access next summer (June-Sept 2026)

We had a great time riding across Canada this last summer. Dollar went far and this country is beautiful! (y)

Baffling to me. Aside from just on its face being openly hostile to tourists... is it part of a strategy to defund the National Parks Service?

I have no desire to visit either however hubby's kids are in Florida along with two new grandchildren that were born this past summer...he is planning on going over Christmas break, but I'm still undecided...the whole idea of ICE pulling people over randomly and border agents looking at my phone put me off...

I decided to stop visiting the US when Trump started his tariff BS and began his rhetoric about the 51st state. I simply will no longer spend any of my money to visit a country where they are hell bent on either killing our economy, or openly suggest that we become them. Last winter instead of going to Vermont and NY to ski my buddy and I went to Quebec. The next trip with my wife to a warm winter climate will be anywhere except the US. I may never go back to a US destination, which is a shame because I've had many great bike and ski trips around the northeast US.

Sad when families are being separated over this administration's actions.

My brother lives in Chicago and is a Green Card holder. He was going to bring his family up this last summer to visit my parents but was advised that if he left the country, there would be a chance that he would not be allowed to return to the US. As a result, he's cancelled all his trips back to Canada.

My parents are in their mid-80s and can't travel. They haven't seen their grandkids in over a year. :(

If you are planning to travel to the US you should be thankful that the proposed changes to the ETSA program will not impact Canadians.

Brief overview of current program..............

CBP is planning the following changes to the existing ESTA application process:
  • Mandatory social media information collection. CBP is planning to add social media as a mandatory data element for an ESTA application and will require applicants to provide their social media information from the five years preceding their application.
  • Additional required personal information.CBP intends to add several data fields to the ESTA application “when feasible,” including:
    • Telephone numbers used by applicant in the preceding five years;
    • Email addresses used by applicant in the preceding ten years;
    • IP addresses and metadata from electronically submitted photos;
    • Family member names (parents, spouse, siblings, children) and dates and places of birth;
    • Family telephone numbers used in the preceding five years;
    • Family member residences;
    • Biometrics – face, fingerprint, DNA, and iris;
    • Business telephone numbers used by the applicant in the preceding five years; and
    • Business email addresses used by the applicant in the preceding ten years.

Can you imagine the process and time required to gather and submit this information.

One can only imagine how this massive database will be reviewed in any meaningful way. Reviewers will likely be looking for key words like Trump, Hegseth, Obama, Biden, election, felon, etc,,,,,,, to source out Trump haters or democrat lovers in order to harass or exclude them from the US.

I think we can conclude that the vast majority of visitors from the countries required to submit this data will elect to not do so and will go somewhere else, as they should.

So watch what you post here or Donnie will write another executive order.

ICE agent to tourist: "You're being detained for breaking order 123XYZ."

Tourist: "Where is that written?"

ICE: "Give me a few minutes. I've just started writing it out."

Here’s another reason to avoid the US….there go my Erie / Ontario loop plans for 2026.

4 more trips planned for next year. Nexus, I don't even get asked a question. They just waive me through.
