Not being able to trip traffic light sensor? Running Red?

What if the light didnt change and there was a red light camera? What would you guys do now? Proceed as usual and get a notice in the mail and fight it?

e.g. Finch and Donmills.

also hitting the crosswalk button doesnt always work! I didnt realize that is illegal though, thanks for the heads up just luc.

Though I don't condone getting off and hitting the crosswalk button - what do you mean this doesn't always work? The only way it won't work is if the button itself is also malfunctioning.

I always treat malfunctioning lights as 4 way stops, per all the safety training I have ever received.
Once I get home, if I remember, I call the city/region/township and ask them to adjust the gain of the sensor in question.

Oshawa has always had the adjustments made within 48 hours of my call.

In MOST situations - the red light cam uses induction loops to detect the vehicle running a red.
If you don't posses enough inductance to trigger the light change, there's a good chance you won't be triggering the camera either.

I of course offer no guarantees

The Triggers

There are a number of trigger technologies, but they all serve the same purpose: They detect when a car has moved past a particular point in the road. Red-light systems typically have two induction-loop triggers positioned under the road near the stop line (more on this later).

Nope. the cameras don't use the traffic sensor loops. They are activated by a presence detector.

There are numerous intersections that may not have traffic loops, yet they may have a red light camera.

I'm not saying it uses "the" induction loop, I'm suggesting it uses an induction loop.

If the intersection doesn't have an inductive loop - then there is no reason to run the red - EVER! the light will change based on a timer in that case.
Why run a red when the light is functioning correctly?

I wasn't commenting on whether or not it's acceptable to run the red. Just pointed out that there are intersections that have red light cameras and may not necessasrily have the traffic loops. The are other factors as to where and when a red light camera is placed that have nothing to do with the OP's original question.

FWIW, I'd run the red. U-turn is more dangerous IMHO. I'd fight the ticket as people have an are generally successful.

Still an inconvenience to attend court. Pay for parking at the Markham court house, etc.
