North shore of Lake Superior

Did you mention whether you're camping or moteling?

Do you need to sit down to order steak at night or are you ok sipping luke warm beer around a campfire cooking dogs on a stick?

If OP is planning to do the Chapleau route from Wawa back down, one best set their culinary experiences appropriately – there is one pizza place in town, one restaurant that was closed when we were there, and oddly enough for a town that is in the middle of nowhere, a subway, although there was some fishy business going on with pricing when we ate there, what we got charged was not what was on the menu boards.

The one motel wasn’t anything to write home about either, but it was serviceable if you have realistic small town expectations

Pulled into that one restaurant town in the pouring rain....was quite happy to dry off for a while and get fed. Don't even recall what I ate but do recall the relief at getting out of the rain.
I waited til it stopped, filled up at the servo and continued on.
Now you remind me I actually think I stayed at the motel which was pretty sketchy....faint memories likely best left fading.
Even further back I recall doing that route on sales calls in my Capri ...aka faux Mustang.
Was pretty rough driving.
Another vague memory surfaced of navigating that route on my RD400 ..not much fun.

Yeah, it was a place to sleep at best. The AC in our room barely worked and the bed was meh, but yeah, it was dry and had a hot shower and I remember the staff was nice. I don't remember how much we paid.

I think this photo I took in the room (going back through the photos now) says all that needs be said lol.

I found some of the drone photos. This was a large portion of what the 129 north of the "tail" was like all the way to Chapleau. Hardly exciting riding.

There was a few corners lol.

There's a neat little store at the bottom (or top, I forget) of the "dragon" section where they play it up kinda like the real dragon. Nice stop for a rest.

I done this back when the pandemic was happening, nothing was open. I managed to be able to pitch my tent in a small piece of a campground going towards the island.

Lots of wildlife, they were saying the bears were coming close to the small villages cause of no activity

I was very disappointed a couple years ago to find that the best beaches and parks on Superior were locked up. Access only after paying a dumb parking fee.

That was my experience of the northern section of the 129 too - very straight and tall trees on the sides ,so not much of a view either.

That trading post store was just north of the 554 intersection here: Tunnel Lake Trading Post & Motel · 6274 ON-129, Thessalon, ON P0R 1L0
