Lots of the hard core around. Road is clean and no speed bumps.

Lovely ride to get used to driving on the right. Only a couple or oops and I grabbed the brake on the Burgman thinking it was the clutch a couple of times.

Not much green tho

Macdoc, havent been to the forks for aboutv3 or 4 yrs..
But at least it's the rear brake eh? Hey, ill reply to your NZ question in the original thread in the touring forum soon.

Yeah - did it twice on the way up and then taking off from the Forks - hand just goes there.
Marty was up there - he was epic last year with 34,000 KM on that old Bimmer - beat his biggest year record by a 3-4k.

Good to chat with a few friends...made a maybe sale. :D

Guy that rode the 6 cyclinder BMW monster is down to a current 1200 and very pleased.
He picked it up with the factory top case and with the low seate on - good looking ride.
Can't beleive the tree damage.

I don't imagine it will be long before those are back. I went that way on the weekend because a friend wanted to ride it and noticed the majority of traffic going faster than usual.

Yeah - practice your accuracy at speed :D

- it's and even nicer day today ....warmer - wore my mesh jacket - a bit chilly on the 401 but nice at slower speeds coming across to Belfountain.

The tree damage all over is crazy....lots of fireplace wood for sure.

Sure was! Took a little 200k run up through Hockley, Creemore, Glen Huron and into Collingwood today. Discovered another really great paved road up that way - Pretty River Road. Still very sandy in places, but well worth the time to get there. Don't know how I missed this road before.

I got out too late and working and chatting sort of did not realize how warm it was. More coming on the weekend. :D
Next two days....not so fun.

Malks....sold my ST1100 in Australia. Had some good rides.....found I liked it with the panniers off.
Nice to keep back on the Burgman 650 but missed the easy power of the 1100.

I was there too with my brother and an old friend.... Great day to ride. All the way from Pickering and only 12 dollars of gas!!!! Hahahha

i see people still pass cagers left of centre that are travelling at posted speed limits. Must have seen 5-6 ss bikes doing just that!

Let's not hijack this thread, but only point out that in Ontario, it is not against the law to overtake across a solid center line marking. If there is a sign that says no passing, that's different. If there is a specific visibility issue within a specific distance as outlined in the HTA, that's also different. But a solid center line marking on its own is not a prohibition against overtaking.

I made it out there today for a little bit. It was the busiest I had seen in a long time for bikes.

Quasi-thread hijack: I can understand why the neighbours there would be upset at the noise. Some bikes are loud even at low RPMs. You can't even have a conversation with the guy beside you sometimes.

What? Then why bother painting the street with a solid line then? I think you're wrong here Brian Boy. I still remember my driver's licence book saying that a solid line means NO passing, but if there's a dotted line on your side of the solid line then you can pass, if the dotted line is on the other side only the opposing traffic can pass, and if there's just a dotted line then both sides can overpass.

The book says it's unsafe, not illegal.

Pay attention to 149(1)(a).

Nowhere in the entire HTA does it even mention any relationship between the type of center line markings and whether you are allowed to cross them or not. You cannot be charged with an offence that does not exist.

Of course, if you overtake in contravention of a sign saying "no passing" or the symbolic equivalent with the same meaning, you are in contravention of disobeying a sign, 182(2).

This situation is specific to Ontario. If you travel somewhere else ... the best assumption is that you are not allowed to cross any unbroken lane marking, because that's usually the case.

Nice - glad you posted this. Was a highlight.
Forgot the camera and only had my iPhone.

Was hot out in the sun....moved inside....insane busy for a bit.

••

Wasn't me coming down 50

Really didn't ride anywhere ....1600 km in 36 hours or so was quite enough for distance.
Did notice how much quieter my Bell 3/4 was over the convertible.......will use the Bell for future long jaunts.
Was crazy busy traffic coming up the 403 /10 to the Forks and of course some yahoos doing 150 in 110/120 heavy traffic...one guy in a Mercedes almost clipped me on the right and I was in the right hand lane.....idjit cut in after his lane ran out into the exit lane.

Wanted to head back to the Pennsylvania hills.

I had a hard time explaining that to my GF....that the solid lines and double solid lines were for guidance only.
In Aus it's an offence to pass on a solid.

[h=2]Continuous centre lines[/h]

You can cross a single continuous centre line to enter or leave a road, including entering or leaving a property, or to pass a cyclist.

However, you can’t cross a single continuous centre line to:

  • overtake another motorist
  • do a U-turn.

Appears from a search that passing on a solid line in the US can collect a citiation.

Yeah - I was having a chat with a mother and two kids about travel destinations and kept having to stop while some dunderhead in loud pipes pulled out.
Some even back in across from the seating area and don't seem to realized
a) it's loud
b) the exhaust fumes are not appreciated.

It's not only bikes tho..some of the cars are crazy noisy too.
Speed bumps not is but too many cars anyways plus I'm jaded from PA ;)

I was astonished at the tree damage - went home via Limehouse....looked like a war zone.
