Newbie in Toronto....from Paris!

Hi there,

Landed few months ago from France with the family.... but left the harley behind:(.
Transferred my original driving license into the Ontario one, but only for cars, did not transfer my moped license:(.
Now have to go through driving test again in order to comply to Ontario standards.

Looking to buy an old Jappy, Honda CB550, to work on.
Looking for information about insurances.
Looking about buying the books for the Ontario motorcycle driving license.

But moreover, looking for new bikers friends, good discussions, and ultimatly, good ride asap!

How many years have you been riding?
If at all possible try to get your insurance history, or atleast your agent contact information, with you.
You will be classified as a "new" rider in Ontario if you go through the licensing program here, and insurance here does not like new riders.
The difference in prices between an experienced rider & a new rider will be enough to buy several CB550's!

Do whatever you can to transfer your French bike license to Ontario! Now!


And welcome...but the riding here will be very different than in France.

Malheureusement il va couter beaucoup pour l'assurance a l'Ontario :-( Je suis certain que ton histoire en France n'aura pas une consequence sur des prix ici.

Bonsoir, je suis cote Est pres de danforth.
Je viens de trouver un vieux xs650 yam a refaire.
Y va y voir du boulot c'est sur, mais ca va etre le fun.
Merci pour les infos et au plaisir.
 
Excellent, congrats. My father just bought a 1978 XS650 to restore last month. He is 82 yrs old! (He gave up his M when he turned 80 but loves restoring things with engines.)

or to be confident of it running safely ?

The ad says it has been safetied.

Maybe that bike is in too good condition for you, if you're more interested in something to work on than to ride right away ? :)

I know zero about maintaining / working on bikes, but if I ever get one, I'd like to learn some of the basics.

What's your mechanical bacground ?

I have already done mine in France, a Harley sportster R.
I already started working on the xs, the seat is off, the rear fender, the tail light, the front bar with grips and mirrors.... all gone already. Also removed the filters and i need to check few things on the carbs before taking them off too.
Will continu over this week may be.
Will also post some pictures. ;-)
Thx a lo for all the links.
I have hard time to find on internet website in canada and gta, dedicated sites to cafe racer style. I found many, but all from US and i don't want to pay import taxes.
If you have any info to help me on this, much appreciated.
