Hi All,

Just got my M2 through learning curves, wish I had joined this site earlier to take advantage of the discount! The course is great BTW.

Currently shopping for an used upright standard bike, I am new to this and trying it out so my budget is small, around $ 2000.

Some of the bikes I have seen listed on line are-
84 Kawasaki 550 LTD
82,83 Kawasaki 440 LTD
84 Honda CB 450
80 Honda CM 400

Basically early 80s, around 400 CC upright motorcycles. Any opinions/suggestions are more than welcome. Thanks

Welcome to the site, and congrats on your M2! Good luck with the bike shopping. You should take a look at the GS500. You can probably find a newer one for your budget because they are more common. Cheap on insurance too. It's the route I took, and I don't regret it at all.

Once you get your bike, if you'd like to go for a ride just send me a PM :)

just be careful with a budget that tight and looking for older model years, by the time you replace a set of tires, a chain, do an oil change, fork oil, coolant and add age related maintenance costs i.e. cables, fuel lines, plugs, valve shims, fork seals, wheel bearings, battery, etc an additional $500-$1000 gets eaten pretty quick. consider expanding the budget to $3000 or $3500 and getting something a bit newer, there are a lot more options out there in that range that may require less age-related maintenance.

You also need to consider resale, newer stuff (say '95 and newer) is a lot easier to move when your looking to step up

thanks tricky and smergy,

for some reason there seems to be a big hole in the naked standard bikes under 500 cc after the 80s. I love the suzuki tu250, but its kinda out of my price range. The GS500 is a good idea, will keep my eyes open for one.

Welcome!!

Does anyone know how much the Suzuki TU250 is selling for now a days? Any suggestions about dealers are welcome.
