New rider. So 1992 EX500 or 1995 Yamaha Seca II Street Fighter

Is it just my impression or the bikes from the early 90's are bullet proof? My F2 needed 0 engine work in 50k. Heck I didn't even check it's valves while it ran with truck rotella. Seems like the SECA is the same and many other 90's bikes.

Seca II engine has 2-valves/cylinder and is air-cooled and carbureted. Simple, robust, easy to deal with. One gripe though, it doesn't come with a centerstand, it's an accessory. I had to buy and install mine.

buy a centrestand... :( its ok, ill build one :P

Alright guys i just got back from a test ride for the 95 Seca II, and i must say its got great power and acceleration! btw i should add it was my first time on a clutch driven bike so i had fun :P rode it well, just getting used to engaging the clutch... So the bike runs ok, it needs a chain adjustment, possibly a new chain all together, valve and carb adjustment. Is it worth buying and doing some work on it? i should add its being sold for a GREAT price but then again its in crappy condition in terms of the aesthetics. As of now, im going googley eyed over it!

If you buy it for under $1500 and put another $500-$700, you've done well. It will last you at least 2 seasons before you start thinking of getting another bike. BTW, does it have a centerstand?

Im actually buying it for under $1000 :P and ya im hopping to put some work towards it, do you know how to properly disassemble this beast for valve adjustment? or Carb tuning? thats all it needs at the moment, it runs, but not perrrrrfectly. I would also like to take the bike to a motorcycle mechanic to tell me if i need a new chain and if it needs adjustment of some sort, however if i can adjust it at home i would prefer that because im pretty sure i have all the necessary tools, (ratchet set, screw driver set, impact wrench, etc. etc.).

Edit: forgot to mention, nop, no centrestand :( ill see what i can do about it :P ill make a new thread on the bike and you guys can track the progression of upgrades/modifications/changes i make to the bike once its in my posetion :D

my first bike was a maxim 750 (same series as the seca), was cheaper than buying a smaller bike, thing was mostly bullet proof (though i did have an issue with the primary chain guide).

Im in the exact same position! i just hope it doesnt need too much mechanical work in the future, i will be doing a full tune up to it so i can learn about its innards etc. etc.
