Need suggestion for ON/QC Destination for a 4-6 day basecamp with day rides.

As per the title, looking for a motocamping destination in either Ontario or Quebec that myself and a few friends can setup a basecamp at and then do return daytrips from. Somewhere with enough roads to allow for 300-400km days ideally with as little overlap as possible.

A few years ago we went to WV and had a great time as we were able to do exactly that, but in the current climate the USA isn't happening, so looking to stay north of the border.

Difficulty:

- Pretty much anywhere south of Algonquin we've all crisscrossed so many times that there's no prospects.

- Anywhere west of the GTA so far as Southern Ontario sure looks flat and boring. Haven't really explored it much admittedly, but yeah, flat and uninspiring from what we all see.

- The Ottawa area and east into Quebec is interesting and perhaps the highest prospect to find something that fits the bill, but unsure where a good basecamp would be, and if there's enough roads to do a basecamp this long without running out of things to see and do. Have ridden some of the areas surrounding Mt. Tremblant but open to revisiting the area as that was 10+ years ago we were all there last.


Looking at the map I'm struggling to find any area that fits the bill here hence why I'm here.

I’m doing this very same thing next week with a buddy.

Currently looking at setting up camp between Barry’s Bay and Pembroke, since that can allow us to explore that region a bit and also easily scoot into Quebec.

Another area that has nice roads is near La Mauricie National Park, but not sure if we will head that far east to set up our camp. The advantage of setting up near there is that now we can do a Saguenay loop in a day from there.

Mont Tremblant is nice right around the tourist area, but the roads are bumpy garbage all around it. Would not recommend.

Did La Mauricie a few years as part of our trip to James Bay. We were quite hyped about that loop as we'd heard it was amazing, but franky, we were all dramatically underwhelmed. I just don't see enough roads in that area either that would give us more than a day or 3 of riding either.

The Barrys Bay / Pembrooke area is interesting...poking around on Google Maps now.

The Barrys Bay / Pembrooke area is interesting...poking around on Google Maps now.

I thought the roads going in and out of that park were really nice, especially on the western side.
I also thought the park was much byter going east to west than vice versa… and we were moving at a very good clip

But overall, I agree - max 3 days of riding that way.

The guy I’m going with can only go Friday to Monday, so we are just doing loops on Saturday/Sunday.

It' s fabulous at speed with no traffic. My kid blitzed it with a big grin on his face....I was bit more sedate but loved the smooth sweepers, elevation changes and top notch pavement. There have a been a few winters since tho so who knows what pavement is like.
With traffic tho....boring with tourists doddling - it's far better than the north side of the fjord for riding pleasure.
