Need new tires

Ok,it's time for some new rubber..The two brands I have narrowed it down to are Michelin Pilot 2's or Pirelli Angel St.
Pilot are a little more pricy both have decent review's for Touring/sport riding.(I have a 2009 Triumph Sprint St)

I called some local dealers and they are priced similar, but crusing the net found some Pirelli Angels a little cheaper and free shipping.

The other cost is install,I would need to take the bike in for the new rubber to be installed. The price for install..quoted at $120 to $140...just wanted some input on this (reasonable)?
I'm located in the Peterborough area if anyone knows a good place for Tires/service.

Thanks

Similar to the Pilot Road 2's are the Pilot Road 3's, but they are supposed to be better in the rain. I put on a set a few months ago and so far I LOVE THEM!

Pete's has them on sale around 300 a set depending on your size http://www.petes-superbike.com/english/pilot-road-3-combo.html

As for installation, I'm not sure what Peterborough has to offer.. I went to heritage auto in north york, it was only $20 a wheel, but I brought the wheels in off the bike,, if you want to ride in, I'm not sure what he charges.. but I think I remember someone saying 70-90.

Hey man, we ride out of Peterborough also! If you're looking for tires try Competition Cycle in Whitby. Talk to Dave, he's about 40 from Peterborough. Good guy and great prices! Is number is 905 728 1714. He may not be back from the Isle of Man TT race but give him a call.

I am on my second set of Pilots 3 and love them. However - will likely change to something else next.
This is not the first time I read about it - http://www.fz6-forum.com/forum/main-lobby-new-member-section/43362-beware-michelin-2cts.html
Saw similar story on advrider and couple of other forums. Could be just tire pressure, etc but it is also not the first time it happened to Michelin tires, they had similar problem with batch of tires made in France several years ago and ended up recalling it.

I've never ridden on an ST tire but on every forum i've been to people rave about the pirelli angel ST. For what its worth

I wouldn't put a whole lot of stock into this.. the PR3's have been sold for what, 2 years now? There must be hundreds of thousands of sets sold, there are 2 reported incidents of catastrophic failure.. all likely hood points towards external factors in these incidents such as improper inflation, or road hazards.. I'm not saying it couldn't have been a tier failure.. everything has a defect rate.. maybe there was a manufacturing issue with these two sets.. but that's still a VERY low fail rate.. no one wants to think of a rider going down as a percentage of acceptable defects.. but every tier from every brand will have a few fail. Every product of every kind for that matter.. unfortunately to thoroughly test every one before they shipped would mean to wear them out before you put them on your bike..

All and all I still think they are a very solid tier and would buy them again..

Dave is a great guy to do business with. I recommend waiting til he gets back though and dealing only with him and not with the other guy that works there.
Or order the tires from Pete's and have them sent to Kneedragger88 on this board (Ken). He's a bit closer as he lives in Bowmanville and it'll likely be a bit cheaper doing it this way.

He's back on wednesday.

Well, I somewhat agree but I saw more then two reports and again - Michelin had exact same problem for batch of tires in the past. Affected batch was made in France and they replaced them with the ones made in Spain.
I still love the tires but most likely I won't be buying Michelins again, going Pirellis or Bridgestones

Thanks guy's for the info..went with Pirelli Angels, just need to have them installed.
Can't wait to give them a run.

Please post back impressions. I am on new set on Pilots for now but expect to replace them closer to fall and I am rally looking at Angels.

Just got new set of Continental's from Dave at Competition Cycle great service awesome deal on the set. Pleasantly surprised with how the tires perform. I had Pilot 2CT and the Conti's are wicked, I have way more confidence in them than I ever did the Pilots.

I ran pr2 and angels before... I got a little bit more mileage out of the pilots, but they're both very good tires.

LOL, when I was choosing new sport tires for my SS last year, I ended up picking between Pirelli and Michelin too. It was pretty much a coin toss, but picked Pirelli tires. So far so good.

HAs anyone considered buying their tire from the States? Apparently they can be ordered to CBI just across the boarder and be picked up later.
Wonder if it's cheaper!!

I love my PR3s.
I got them in one of the first shipments that Pete sent out, and love them. Have about 6,000km on them and can't even tell.
Wet performance they are awesome compared to the bridgestones I had on before. If I wear these out I'll be buying them again.

I too can get tires changed for like 20 or 30 per wheel if I bring them in off the bike... That shop is ripping you off!

Prices in Canada have come down significantly in the last few years. There might be some deals out there but for the most part I don't think it's worth it any more to buy tires in the US. You might save some $ but the time required to go get them simply doesn't offset the $ savings.

So... I went with the Pirellis and of course it's raining when I pick up the bike :(

Got home taking it easy (new rubber)&(rear pads) decided to clean her up a bit.As I was cleaning my rear rim noticed no wheel weights?

Front was fine but the rear was missing both sides...this sucks  First thing in the morning back to the shop and try again.

I was planning on a tour up the 507 and beyond..just get get some wear on the new Angels...but it looks like the devil  has put a damper on that.

To be continued.....
