Nearly became a hood ornament

Glad you came out ok. Just curious, can someone get charged for hit and run if there no other witnesses around or proof of evidence such a video etc. I the end isn't it just your word against his?

If you require proof. Then maybe you can a caption from the traffic cameras aloing the DVP. I'm not sure how you go about getting it though.

Having a witness helps. If I had been smart I would have pulled over anyways and I'm sure one (of the many) people who witnessed it would have pulled over with me. As for whether you need a witness? No. The damage to my plate and markings left on my rear tire was enough for the collision centre.

OP Can you let us know if anything comes of this? This is extremely dangerous and some people need to be taken off the roads.

I will. I was told I can go check up on the status of the incident next week. That's the exact reason why I filed the claim in the first place. He obviously needs to be sitting on a porch rather then behind the wheel of a 2+ ton Lincoln.

Glad you are okay OP. That could have ended really badly.

Last year, I was once caught in that situation on Lakeshore. I was in the fast lane with a minivan beside me and a car ahead of me. The fast lane was moving a little faster than the middle, but my front wheel was about even with the minivan's back wheel. Then all of a sudden a ricer in his Civic goes right up behind me. I keep looking back. But this guy seems to think it's a challage to see how close he could get to my rear tire (keep in mind there was no shoulder). I tried to move up, but the ricer kept coming. So I lane splitted (a little) and shot out like a bat out of hell into the middle lane... right into a speed trap! FML...

The cop didn't want to hear my excuse and the ricer got away. I tried fighting the ticket, but lost. Yeah, I got points and I'm a few hundred dollars lighter... But at the end of the day, I escaped it unhurt.

Definitely let us know on the follow up regarding the moron, OP. His action is murderous, deserves to be punished!

OP, glad you're alright and I would also like to know what comes of this. Then I can weigh the options of reporting it vs following the ******* home... ;)

And that's why I hit the brakes when I'm in the car. Not hard, just so the lights come on and startles the tailgater. If he keeps doing it, and I can't move or it's very heavy traffic, well then I nail the brakes. Haven't been rear-ended yet... Only once while I was stopped at a red light. I tried pulling up and to the left but he was going way too fast.

Glad you are okay OP. That could have ended really badly.

so glad you're ok, and that you kept calm. you sir make us all look good.
had that been me I'd of pulled him from his car and ended up in jail.

Odds are pretty good that he won't be able to scrub a big black rubber stripe off of his front bumper.

OP:

I once reported a Road Rage incident to the OPP. They asked me if needed would I be able to identify the driver in a line up.

It may be advantageous for you to have a description of the driver as best as you can recall written down. In case you get asked more detailed questions during the investgation.

Please keep us informed on your progress, and I hope you get your justice... In your situation I wouldn't call it hit and run. I would call it attempted murder with a weapon. In this case the vehicle is the weapon..

good luck

+1 I'd like to know how this turns out as well. Glad you're okay. Definitely a good example of how to handle a ****ed up situation.

Xyrus... Ive been contemplating leaving ridign for the track too... the laws the drivers... almost make it not worth while...

glad your alright =)

In all my years of riding I've never experienced this degree of MORONIC driving behavier.

Yesterday afternoon I was riding up the DVP at around 4:30. As I'm passing Lawrence where traffic begins to speed up suddenly I feel my bike jerk forward, my back wheel become lighter, and lock up. I felt my bike acting in a way that can be compared to 'speed-wobble'. I glanse in my rear view and notice I've just been struck from behind by a cager. He couldn't have hit me at more than 5km/h quicker than my speed (which was still 90-100km/h). This was all happening within a second but felt much longer. I quickly regained my balance on the motorcycle and sped up since Mr. Dumbass Cager was still literally grinding the rubber off my wheel. Thankfully I have my skills on a track to thank for acting calm and recovering quickly without going down.

I memorized his plate and when he eventually pulled up beside me I asked him if he would pull over. He mumbled something and continued to drive. Not sure if anything was damaged, I got off at the next exit and pulled into the nearest parking lot. Upon inspection the bike (and me) everything seemed ok ...minus the rubber (or lack there of) on my back wheel and a bent license plate.

Later on a filed a claim for Hit and Run. Hopefully that F--ker will get what's coming to him.

PS - I'm honestly considering leaving the riding for the track and ditching my street bike. The more I look around at all those drivers who seem so preoccupied with their daily lives that they can't show little regard for those around them, the more I realize that riding in Toronto is a death wish.

Update!

I got a call from my insurance company (Jevco) and the agent on the phone said that because of the system he's using, its nearly impossible to trace the Quebec license plate. The claim has since been closed and wont reflect on my insurance.

That's pretty silly IMHO. I'm going to go to the collision centre and see if the police made any headway on the situation. I don't see how someone can get away from a hit-and-run charge because they're from another province..

You were very resourceful and thorough, and I hope Toronto's police
don't just blow this off with "All this paperwork is too much hassle for us".
Investigating and prosecuting offenses is what they were hired to do,
so for the sake of us all, I hope they follow this to a conclusion that
satisfies you and also the law.

I predict the offender will not get a lick of punishment. Hope I'm wrong.

I have been riding a bike on Toronto's streets for fifty years. Yes, 50.
I find it helps to ride it like it's a locomotive. If Joe Idiot on my left is
crowding the dotted line between our lanes, I move LEFT. I am nimbler
than Joe, and I am prepared to dodge, but I don't give up part of my lane.

Fifty years ago, I was new at the game, and motorcycles were fewer,
so motorists were not accustomed to seeing a motorcycle every minute.
We had to be very wary, and of course that has not changed, but I
think the reasons for needing to be wary have changed.

Good luck with your campaign!

Sounds like an excuse. Have you tried contacting the Quebec police directly (if its a Quebec plate)? I have never read about such idiotic and downright dangerous behaviour from a car and I've read and seen a few bad things. I'm interested to know if this ******* can get some kind of legal comeuppance.

This guy needs to be caught. You handled the situation much better than me. Like a few others, I would have ended up in jail or the hospital. Don't give up on your right to justice.

I had a friend who's car was hit in Mississauga, guy took off, he got the plate. The guy lived in Toronto, that was the end of it. Peel police didnt followup, my friend was also able to find out the guy had no insurance. I'd forget about it if he was from PQ. It's sad, but likely nothing will come of it.

Judging by the condition of the car it would not surprise me one bit if the guy didn't have insurance. I will pursue the situation and follow up with the police at the collision centre on Monday. The officer I dealt with when filing the report was really helpful and hopefully he's still there. Though as many of you said, I too would not be surprised if nothing comes of this. At least the accident was stricken from my insurance record which was my biggest concern from the get-go.

Thanks all for the advice and I will continue to post updates as I get them.

If I can offer any advice for anyone finding themselves in the same situation, it would be to get one (or multiple) witnesses. I didn't do this which probably hurt my chances at getting this ****** charged.
