My turn to be stupid

Yesterday, I had a nice ride. At some point, I stop to catch a break and stretch the legs. When I was about to get off the bike, I felt it tipping over. I tried to stop it, but it was too late. It was on the floor, and I laughed at how stupid I was.

Some nice people stopped over to ask if I was ok. It was hard to explain with a straight face that it was my fault.

So yeah. Friendly reminder, put your kickstand down if you don't want your bike to fall.

it happens 🙁

I'm short and I only ever touch one foot or one toe down on all my bikes, so I'm hyper-aware of when the kickstand is down or not when I get off the bike.

However, I have the exact opposite problem where I'll try to put the bike in gear when the kickstand is down. It happens most often when I start the bike in neutral to warm it up, get on, and then someone distracts me (like striking up a conversation) before I leave. Then when I click it into gear... *clunk* bike shuts off... thankfully because of the sidestand kill switch.

My enduro doesn't have a sidestand kill switch, so I've actually ridden off with the kickstand down. It's a good thing I trail-ride with other people and they'll yell out after me. It's only happened a couple of times, but that's embarrassing on a different level.

Odds are nothing outrageous will happen. Odds caught up with a guy I knew on a PE175.

couple weeks back i was taking off the rear stand off the bike in the garage. As usual as the rear tire hits the ground i lean the bike to the left. I expect it to lean on the kickstand, instead it keeps leaning and hits my other bike.

Argh. Forgot to put down the kickstand from working on the bike the night before. Put a quarter size dent on the left side of the tank.

At least you were riding yours when you tipped it.

I just did this at Hockley General store I front of everyone. Didn’t see the lip on driveway had to try drop it gently to the right. Picked up made U turn right back in next driveway parked it as if nothing happened. I made no eye contact. 😂

Serves me right, I always pass there and never stop in. This time I had to meet another rider and he chose the spot. At least no damage to bike just a slow-mo, oh ***t
In gear too, why didn’t I blip it a bit. Slow thinking. :poop:

Forgetting the kick stand led to buying new glass for a gas pump in town....

Hopefully the tip over damage wasn't too severe!

The crash bars did an amazing job. Only minor scratches to the mirror and passenger foot peg.

I also tried to drop it gently. When I realized the motorcycle was leaning more than usual, I tried to pull it back straight, but it was too heavy. So I just grab the handlebars and slowly let it drop to the pavement.

If you don’t make eye contact it never happened. It’s a rule.

I did something similar a couple of weeks ago in the garage.
My kickstand was out but I guess not as far as it should have been.

Thankfully the shelving at the side help me up while I held up the bike and fought it back upright. A little sore wrist but no damage to the bike.

Chit happens to everyone.

I learned a long time ago that tendons>>>>>Pieces of plastic.

On an unrelated note.....i stopped at the Hockley general store yesterday, and reached for the sidestand. Lol.

Yeah, muscle memory is something, isn't it?

I rode a Harley trike. Same thing. Reaching for a non-existent kickstand.

Worse is on a snow bike. At a stop, lean it to the left, put left foot down and it sinks into four feet of powder.

Congratulations, you're now buried in snow with a bike on top of you.

Certain bikes have kickstand "quirks". I was wondering if yours was on the list. Mine is on that list, so is my wife's. Happens to the best of us. Like or hate him, he can ride.
