...and for some of us its a viable means of transport to commute to work. The posers stopped riding (to timmies and "meets") weeks back.

Well I might ride to work on Thursday and/or Friday, but I'm pretty much done now. I just did the season ender major cleaning and dumped some stabilizer in the tank, so I'll have to add more if I ride. With a 5:30am commute, it just isn't worth the risk of hitting black ice on a ramp.

I understand it's tougher to ride like a total d-bag on cold tires, but I have faith in your ability to still do so. You just need to find that confidence you've been lacking.

no point arguing with these type...making up for the confidence they lack with big hp and thinking they're the **** riding a SS.

I've got Pilot Powers and haven't spun my rear tire at all this month, or had my front or rear lock up at any time...Its my third season with 50k km, so not exactly a noob either and I have no heated gear. And the car I've got to drive if I choose to do so is a 2010 E-350...

Haters gonna hate....

I'm purely still riding because once I stop it means the TTC. If I had a car I would have parked the bike some time ago lol.

Not hating it's just riders with different opinions.

Tire choice or HP really won't change the outcome if you hit a patch of black ice, and just because in your 3 years of riding your front or rear tire hasn't slipped doesn't mean it's never going too happen.

E-350, a ford van or MB ;)

The appeal for riding in cold weather lessens every year you've been riding.

I don't think it's a question of being a pussy or being hard core, for me the morning temperatures we are having right now is more than enough reason for me to park the bike and take the car.

+2 to -3 and Black ice becomes a reality. As mentioned earlier modern day SS tires are nothing but hockey pucks in lower temps.

I would rather ride in -10 than -1.

At last check no-one receives a medal for riding in December.

Opposite for me, I ride later and later every year. When I started, I went whenever the roads were dry, I had no car, so my bike was my independance, my freedom to go anywhere when I wanted. A few years later I bought a car and put the bike away usually early November. Then as time went on, I drove my car less and less to not driving it all till there was ice and snow on the road. I park my car usually 8 months of the year. I can afford to keep both on the road, but I would take riding my bike in the rain, in the cold, in any condition save for completely frozen roads over driving a car. Its a personal thing, its not for everyone.

Hope u guys have heated gear.

Even though I have a H. Vest, I haven't ridden in November to work simply because I gotta bundle up so much and by the time I get to work, I'm in a mess.

^ This. My shop is 8kms from my house - unless it's SUNNY when I walk out the door, I'm driving the Cherokee.

I prefer this weather for sure, to some of those burning days in the summer.

I can't believe how few riders ride today compared to all in the summer here. It's still above 0C during the day and not even raining or snowing.

I can understand this. I went out on Sunday but stored it when I came home. I can foresee too much going on in the coming weeks but I also have to take too much crap to take to work to use the bike regardless of the weather. I see you commuters and think "I have one of those... lucky bastard gets to ride his." ... or hers.

Just curious: how long have you been riding?

It has been my experience that most riders who've been at it for some years are over the hump and don't bother pulling their bikes out unless its warm and sunny. For a lot of us the novelty of riding the same streets over and over has largely worn off, whereas new riders will take every opportunity they can to get out there. When I was new I rode any time it was above 0.

edit: Nevermind, I answered my own question by looking at your previous posts... new rider, as suspected.

That's kinda sad really. My condolences for your lack of passon and sense of adventure.

You started riding only 2 years ago by your past posts.... so I understand your excitement. Don't worry it will likely subside enough in the coming years that you won't subject yourself to such cold pointless rides ;) rookie

Your poor addition skills aside, i feel bad you don't enjoy riding your bike anymore.

Considering that Paul has already been through this thread and cleaned up a bunch of trolling posts, do you guys really want to keep trolling for infractions? Let it rest.

Wow i started a war lol. Personally i'm not still riding because i think it's fun, but for the simple fact i don't have a car, so i really want to stretch out the use of the bike as long as possible before having to resort to the TTC, especially since the bus i take has two high schools along the route to my job. A bus full of screeching teenagers at 8 in the morning isn't my idea of fun.. so whatever i can do to delay that experience i'm doing lol. Also, the TTC is six bucks a day to and from work (metro pass isn't worth it to me since i wont use it every day), so that's $30 a week, whereas $15 in my bike is good for at least two weeks of just back and forth to work for me. So $15 vs $60 is a huge saving.

I should add that when i take the bike i leave around 8am and i'm home before 4pm every day, so i'm only out in daylight hours and my commute is only 10 minutes and no highways. This morning was sunny with no frost at all where i live, i guess it's different in different parts of the city though. But i'm not stupid, i would never ride if i thought there would be frost or ice out there. My route is all side streets which were all very dry today. Still.. probably gonna park the bike after this week. I was hoping to make it until the Dec bike show but that's another 3 weeks, i think by then there will be ice on the roads for sure.

Ice is my only concern though, not the cold, hell.. i'm a delivery guy and work outside all day and sometimes wear shorts in January lol, so the cold doesn't bug me. Road conditions is all that factors into my decision when to park the bike.

Wow, So everyone that rides when when its to cold for you to ride means that they are a rookie?

So can you please let me know when you think it is warm enough at the beginning of next season so that we are allowed to ride.
I believe most people that ride at this point of the season realize the risk and ride accordingly to the road conditions.
So what do we have to do to become a veteran like yourself?
Because you say we subject ourselves to a cold pointless rides, But some of us don't see it that way, Some of us still enjoy it.
I grow up on a snowmobile so this is really not that cold.

I said I didn't see the joy in it. Then the rest of my posts were directed at select individuals who thought of fair-weather riders as 'pussies', and that riding in the cold is "macho" and "canadian"

Im sure many experienced riders enjoy the freezing cold rides... I just haven't met more than a couple! And their reasons are generally the same as mine; it's just not as much fun once the years set in and experience begins to get stale. I still love riding on the street don't get me wrong, but it's not so 'holy crap i gotta be out there every waking hour' any longer. That's normal, I think.
