So lucky me, got a nail in the rear tire of my pp's. I still have half the tread left on them, and i'm thinking to just patch for a couple of weeks or so. I figured to turn this bad luck into an opportunity to try out a new set of rubber. Was thinking of the mm5's. Looking for feedback from owner's who have ideally had both tire options. The PP's are great but i can't help to think that there might be something better out there, and it looks like the mm5's might just be the tire. Now some of you are going to ask what my needs are, etc.

I do use my bike to commute, but hit the twisties every chance i get. I'm actually wearing out the softer compound on the sides of the tire more so then the middle strip. So i am looking for the best street tire out there performance wise. Might do a track day or two this season.

So let's recap. This thread is meant to be about the Metzeler M5's (MM5) vs Michelin Power Pure's (PP). And NOTHING ELSE. Thanks. Any input on realistic mileage is also appreciated. Cheers

I voted for both!

Get the BT 016's

Dunlop Q2s or the Metzelers. Right now those are the two most predictable, streetable supersport tires, IMHO. The BT-016 is older-tech and while it works OK it doesn't wear well and it sucks in cold or rainy conditions. The Power Pures just don't steer well at anything but extremes - cranked over all the way or completely upright. The only bike that seems to like the PP is the new R1, as it comes with them stock and is probably set up for them (or the tire is, as an alternative fitment).

Go Goodyear!

Ill quit ****ing with your thread bro.. but in all seriousness go with the Met and try something new!

It's a shame that Dunlop won't bring over the excellent SportSmart tire from UK and Europe. It apparently outshines the Q2's in most if not every category and they last longer. Why Dunlop won't bring them here is beyond me.

In the mean time, it's Pirelli's or nothing. :D

Sunny S, have u had a set of pp's? How do the DCIII's stand out vs your last tire?

I had 014's, 016's, pp2CT, and now running Pirelli Diablo Rosso Corsa's based on other riders reports and excellent reviews from UK Bike magazine (they rate the Dunlop SportSmart the best, but can't get em here).

Michelin makes a big deal that the Pure's are 2lbs lighter than everybody else, but thought I read somewhere that the DRC's are only slightly heavier.

I rate them in this order, from my experience from best to worst. DRC's, pp2CT, 014, 016.

Very happy with the Mich's and Pirelli's. Won't do Bridgestone any longer. Wish I could try Dunlops!

I voted for the M5's. Got 9000 km from the first set, great grip, predictable dry or wet. On the second set now. BTW, BT-016's are crude in comparison, old tech dated construction.

By PP2ct, are you referring to Pilot Power 2ct's? Or Power Pures? I think you are talking about Pures! (you need not include the 2ct in the name, as Pilot Pures currently only have one model (2ct and LTT combined). : it's the Pilot Powers that need the 2ct in the name to differentiate between the standard Pilot Power's (non 2ct).

I'm speaking of the power pure's

I'm speaking of the power pure's
I figured as much....

Michelin tire naming with PP this and 2ct that.... without specifying the tire, it's tough to understand what we are talking about..
Here's another thread with a poll specifically for Power Pure's vs BT-016's, and despite the poll, the OP bought old PP2ct's (pilot power) despite much of the good feedback being for Power Pures.
