M2 license expiry date vs G2 license expiry date

Hey guys

So i first got my G1 back in August 2010, and of course it expires August 2015.
I got my M1 in June 2012, so do these two classes have their own respective expiry date, or do they both expire on August 2015?
Btw, yes I got my M2 so no worries about the 90 day stuff (RTI woot)!

Thanks in advance!

Your question is not clear. Do you have your M1 or M2? Your M1 only lasts 90 days, your M2 lasts for 5. Do the math.

the kid isnt very clear on what he wants to ask , im pretty sure he means if you got your (example) G licence in 2010 and the expire date is 2015 , then you get your m2 licence in 2012 then the expire date would be 2017 would you have 2 expire dates on your licence or would it just show witch expire date comes first?

When i held a G2M2, it showed my G2 expiry date (Got M2 2 years after G2). When i got a GM2, it still showed my G expiry date (5 years from G1). So im assuming it shows whichever is coming first.

yeah thats what I meant
and thanks for answering guys!

Do not let your g2 expire. Another member did an that caused him untold amounts of grief.

My friend let his G2 expire and in the insurance eyes they won't look at his 5 years driving experience and but they will look at his accident from 2 years ago. lol

There are a couple of things at play here - there are the automatic expiry dates that come with a probabationary class of licence (G1, G2, M1, M2). Then there is the overall administrative renewal process that occurs every 5 years based on the issue date of the card. If that 5 years comes up during the time that a probationary class is valid, and you renew on time, all of the clocks keep right on ticking except for the renewal process, which resets to 5 years.
So if last renewed my licence in 2010, I'm due for a new card in 2015. If I've been riding on an M2 since 2008, the M2 will expire in 2013.
If I got my M2 this year, it will go until 2017 - but I will still need a new card in 2015 unless I get one earlier (to reflect the M2 class)
The date of expiry on the physical licence is related to the renewal process, not any probationary class you may have. Do not miss that renewal!

Hey guys I have a question relating to this topic. My M2 is going to expire this year. I got it in May 5years ago, does it mean I only have until May to get my full M or do I have until the end of the year?

You have until May

If you look it actually tells you the EXACT date it expires...... far out eh.

Yes it does show that my license expires on Sept 2017. Hey, I'm willing to wait that long, but I'm worried that if I go and test for my full M then they'll make me take my M1 all over again.

Urgh I'm so nervous.....

Took me about 4 minutes of google fu.

I have a licence with a full class and a novice class (e.g. GM2). What happens?
Your licence expiry date will usually be the expiry date of the full class licence, but your novice class may have a different expiry date. You will receive a "Notice of Novice Driver's Licence Expiry" for the novice class, and you must then decide if you want to retain that class by passing the appropriate road test.

I do believe that answers your question.

That is most likely your G Class license expiry date. Expiry dates are separate to their own class.

On a slightly different topic on the M2 vs M class, does it lower the insurance a bit with the M if you are already over 30 yrs old anyway? Does it make a difference?

Just wanted to see if there are any benefit to go for it earlier rather than later.

Statefarm doesn't care, M1/M2/M all same rate.
