Looking to buy my first bike

I wonder where Hyundai would be today if everyone stayed away from the Pony/Stellar/Excel? I wouldn't consider Hyosung only because they are a full sized bike and I have troll sized legs. But I like the cheap price, used. Fwiw, my 1988 rear wheel drive Hyundai Stellar, was a stellar vehicle. Brand new $8k, Dad drove it for 13 years.
Also, op, if you live in a condo, the Hyosung is the best option. And if you don't, you will save on insurance as you will not need theft coverage.

If Hyosung started building better vehicles like Hyundai did people wouldn't bash them like they do.

I'd put more trust in the CSC Cyclone RX3/TT250 than the Hyosung right now.

OP, if you do buy the Hyosung, can you imagine how hard it would be to resell it for a decent price when you decide you want to upgrade?

I'm making an assumption of a <$1k purchase price with an estimated $0 resale. I'd be okay with that personally. But I would not pay any more than that.

My first bike is a 500. I weigh about 250lbs and I doubt that I could maintain highway speeds with anything smaller. As long as you take a motorcycle safety course first, you shouldn't have any problem starting on a midsized bike.
Someone mentioned the Honda CB500x already. Reviews for the CB500x are all very positive. It is on my shortlist of choices for my next bike.
(IIRC, this unit was advertised for $4500 last month, but it so white! http://www.markhamoutdoorpower.com/2015-honda-cb500xaf-inventory.htm?id=1026330&in-stock=1 )
IMO, you should also look into the Suzuki SV650/SFV650/SVF650/Gladius before you make your final decision. Reliable, versatile, and well-mannered. Often available used for a reasonable price

Have you owned one or regularly ridden one?

If Hyundai kept building cars like the Pony it would be a moot point...because they would have gone bankrupt about 20 years ago. ;)

The Pony was not stellar. Stiff competition for Yugo, Skoda and Lada tho.

Those three brands did not Excel.

Hyosung? No, but I've read enough reviews/personal opinions/major failures to form my own personal opinion of what I think about them.

CSC? No. If I lived in the USA, I would buy the TT250 for $1895 and see for myself.

Do you think it's a good idea to buy one?

If it was like Joe Bass said, under 1k and expect very little resale then I would recommend buying it.

If that was the case no one would ever buy a Gixxer, or go to Canadian Tire or hire a lawyer. Tell me how many times have you gone out of your way to write a good review?

Like I said, if he is looking for a great resale value then he should not buy it, if he is looking to get a cheap decent bike, fuel injected with good tire size that will allow him to learn and ride his average 6 k a year for a couple of years until he decides to move to something bigger then he can't go wrong.

I am sure if someone that has never heard of that brand read this thread they would regurgitate how bad the bike is at their next Tims pose fest.

Of course this is a forum and the point is to post opinions but when someone has such a strong opinion one would wish it came from personal experience. I am speaking generally, this is not directed at you

I hate Canadian Tire... .. .. Well, I do. The place is the devil.

On a side note I watched a buddies hyosung come to a full stop and then rattle itself to pieces. Awesome. But he didn't maintain it at all, and rode it to death over the period of a year.

Real review. In a pinch, needed snap ring pliers couple weeks back. OMG I can't believe the garbage I brought home from CTC. CTC is worse than PA.

You do have a point.

I considered a GTR250 as a first bike a few years ago. I did a lot of reading about them. When Hyosung's get better, there will be more good reviews on them. Not yet though.

That's a steal. But it is a demo
Their salesmen are a dream to deal with.

Don't be dissin' PA. Their stuff is all right off the boat, sure, but much of it is surprisingly decent...and if anything breaks they'll take it back or exchange it even a decade later, even without a receipt. Their return policy is Costco-Esque. That gives them cred in my books.

I still have one of their little 5 gallon compressors that's been to hell and back in the 10 years I've owned it and it still works perfectly every time I call upon it. Lots of other stuff over the years, same experience.

So...umm. Yeah. Sorry about the thread derail OP. ;)

PA is moving upward, CTC continues to be an insult.
