Looking for a backpack!

I use the icon squad 2. It's pretty big, I use it when I ride to the cottage for the weekend and it fits all my gear. It also clips up nice and tight in the front with the chest plate so it doesn't move around. I think it's best feature tho, is that it's reflective so I was able to get the black one and still know I'll be seen at night.

As I said in the other backpack thread, I got the Ogio Metro bag and couldnt be happier. Lots of separate apartments for keeping stuff separated (house keys, gym clothes, cell phone, mp3 player, etc). I did see that one dealer that advertises on here (can't think of their name, but they are near Keele/Dundas, which if you are downtown Toronto might be your closest bet), was having a sale on OGIO bags.

I think this is the store that he means:

also can vouch for MEC stuff as good quality... for really short trips I either take this http://www.mec.ca/AST/ShopMEC/Packs/Daypacks/PRD~4003-256/mec-pika-plus-daypack.jsp or my hydrapack backpack for mountain biking...

for longer I take the icon tank bag cuz it can turn into a backpack if im just carrying it around.

Be careful with what you put in a backpack. A guy in my brother's old neighbourhood had some cans of pop in his backpack and he wiped out. Broke his back and became a parapalegic. Needless to say, I use a tankbag.

I only use my backpack when I am going to work and the only thing I use it for is to bring my laptop with me.
However, what you have just mentioned is one of my biggest fears and has always been on the back of mind.
I will no longer do so... or try not to anyways.

That doesn't happen with the Ogio No Drag because its top is a hard material. I've lowsided on my back with it in the rain once and it saved my leather jacket from getting scratched up. Bags perfectly fine too. Speed was about 60-70KM/H

I wear one similar to this...

I'll look into the Ogio, thanks for the advice.

I use the Icon Squad II as well. I found it a little heavy at first but it sits well and Is a nice size. I tried tank bags but I just can't stand the bulk in front of me.

I don't know about the rest of you but I hate riding with a backpack. The straps cut a lot of the airflow off in my jacket, and as stated the fear of anything solid in the pack causing injury in a crash is always there.

Go for a tankbag, or even better a tailbag that's completely out of your way. Just make sure it's zipped up before you ride off!!!!

I have the icon squad as well n I find it very comfortable n it holds a lot of stuff, but I think if you're 5'5 n under(unless you're built like a weiner dog) it will be too tall.

My gf is 5' n she hates wearing it cause it pushes up against the back of her head lol

I use a Kriega R20. The strap system makes it very comfortable to wear and it holds all I need for a weekend.

Whether you use a pack or a tank/tail bag depends on a number of things. Does your bike accommodate tail/tank bags (mine doesn't). Tank and tail bags may well scratch your paint so check thoroughly when mounting or don't care and don't worry. Are you going to leave your stuff on the bike when you get where you're going? Are you worried about security?

Personally, I didn't like the idea of a pack but for the type of use I put it to it makes most sense for me. I know my stuff is secure and that it isn't sliding around on the tail. When I get where I'm going I just start walking and hang my helmet from the pack.

Keep your saddle bags lisa, you will love them  Dont forget some pants too :D

I'm pretty sure I was wearing pants today. Oh....you mean riding pants! ;) Thanks again for your help! Talk soon.

I have an Icon Urban B Tank Bag/Backpack that's excellent.Check out my video on YouTube:

Be cautious for a scratched tank.

the back pack causing injury is a valid concern, I use an icon tank bag that converts to hold the helmet and become a back pack, though usually i don't bother when i go to work as i just carry the helmet to my desk or go grocery shopping cause i just toss everything in a shopping cart. if i go to a movie or something where I can't leave the helmet on the bike and i'll be walking around a bit I'll use the helmet flap.

Saw a nice small tank bag, I think by Joe rocket... thinking of getting that for when I don't need the big tank bag.

I'm always worried about this when I go grab 48 beers in my giant alpine-style pack.
