Looking at down sizing bike

Guns don't kill people, people kill people. Motorcycles don't go fast, people make motorcycles go fast. Keep you FZ1 and get yourself some self discipline and restraint. Without you twisting the throttle the bike is just a heap of metal.

easiest way is to get yourself out of the sportbike category and just get a dual sport single cylinder like a KLR or bmw 650 GS. You'll be burning oil if you give too much throttle haha

I can sympathize with the OP, I'm on a CBR1100XX and looking at downgrading to a VFR800. Its just a bit too easy to settle into a 160 kmh/r cruising speed.

OP:

Maybe get a CBR125? Cuz even a 250 can be quite crazy judging by your description?
Plus I was raced by 2 riders on 250s on the hwy in the past week and they were all faster than me.

Yeah really if you are not in Europe it's an ongoing roulette game ( tho PA is close enough to be hooligan ).

I'm almost at the point of going down to a 250 or 400 light weight dualie for off road in Aus and turn the KLR 650 into the tourer instead of the ST1100.

I love the pull on the ST and the effortless power but a bit sucky around town and a ticket magnet on the open highway ( photo radar - no talking out of those ).

I do like the intermediates that Honda has introduced - the 500s in particular. Light, cheap to insure.
The one I want is not available here....CBR400 - but is available in Australia.
Low weight but a screamer.

I'd swap the ST1100 down to a VFR800 as well but not sure it helps the hooligan temptation. :D

Since your in PA just ride without helmet and don't crouch down, it will be difficult to breath when your going too fast. Also knowing the consequence if you go down will erase all hooliganism.

Nah kid is the 200 kph hooligan these days and he's only on a SV650 which at least keeps him under 200 indicated and he's heavily armored.

140-150 is my limit and at least PA makes that fun on some roads.

Helmet is de rigueur always - I might squid in the heat otherwise but helmet is always there.

Your not trying hard enough :-)

Throttle pinned on the 407 this morning from Brock to 404, best i could muster was 157 km/h. Speedos read optimistic on these bikes, plus i refuse to tuck to gain a couple of extra km/h's. :)

Refuse or you're unable to!?

My 250 does 170km at redline. The speedo is actually accurate on this bike

Hey I currently ride a 03 FZ1 and I am finding my self get in trouble (143mph in a 55mph) in PA nice trooper let us go with a bit of cash ..am looking at VFR 800 .any thoughts ? It's to easy with my bike to get to speed with out even thinking about it your in trouble ( I know it's called control your self ) thanks

No need to downsize. File a restraining order against your wright wrist :D

Getting a faster bike will allow you to continue speeding and you can just ignore the cops. Just be aware of the locations of nearby donut shops in case they call for back up.

I made a little spreadsheet to check top speed in each gear, here's my 636:

Rip 4 gears and you're nearly 230, I guess a liter bike would be even easier! An EX500 is not a bad one, although, you'll still be well into HTA in 4 gears...

PS. I'm think 5/6 might be drag limited on this bike, I didn't really try but I hear 200kms is about the most people can get outta the bike.

Don't believe this cop/cash story either, OP is trolling.

Cop pulls me over and says "do you realize you were doing 149?" I replied "do you realize I was in first gear?" He smiled at the comment and gave me a 15 over and thanked me for stopping. Younger guy, they're not all bad.

I do. Cops are people too.

Cops in the US are like here. They have the "gang" mentality. Try and bribe them and you'll get the book thrown at you. They'd rather parade you in front of their buddies for the bribe. Cops in Mexico and other third world counties tend to take bribes as they make **** wages for an extremely dangerous job. They will do anything to get by. In a third world country being a cop is actually a dangerous job, your chances of being shot/killed are great...unlike here. You're crazy if you try and bribe a cop here or anywhere in North America.

US is a third world country in many places. Guns, religion, poverty :)

You dont offer to bribe them directly. You can say something in the lines of "Can I just pay the fine right now, cash?"
