Clearwater. One of the biggest if not the biggest lobster buyers in NS has closed it's doors. wondering what this will do to the industry in the east coast.

Quota is the root of the problems. I'm not saying quota is bad (if properly created, I think it's good) but anytime you limit supply and change it every year that makes properly sizing fleet and processing hard. Now does clearwaters quota come up for purchase or do the other processors split it?
From what i understand it's not just quota, fisherman have a lottery system on days they can fish. i can see this being a huge issue if they can't find a buyer to get the product to market. Maybe the days of buying on the wharf will be back.
