Lic Questions

Hey everyone, so I need some information and help. The bright lady at Motor Vehicle instructed me on my birthday in December I had one more year to complete my M test before my M2 experienced well that wasn't the case, for some reason I received my new lic card and it still showed GM2 then a month later another card arrived showing G. So I must now start all over again. My questions are is the M1 test still just written? and also how hard did you guys find the M2 test. I did my M2 through Sheridan Collage but I don't want to pay $500.00 again for nothing. Any ideas or info would be great as I am picking up my bike Aug 1st. Thanks

Yes, the M1 Test is just written.

If you have been riding and have experience you should be ok to pass the M1 Exit. (M2 test).
Search on here and you should be able to find the actual tests.

How long ago did your M2 Expire? You might be able to get an extension to do your full M.

M1 is still written, M2 is really simple! Just don't let your guard down and don't rush it. A buddy of mine went through the whole thing with ease and then as he rolled to a stop, he layed the bike down in slow motion as he was getting off, he mentioned he slipped. Because of that he failed it was considered dropping it. Other then that if your time expired and you are back to M1, I'm afraid u'll have to go through the process again..

Why didnt you just listen to the lady and get your M instead of going through all the trouble now? Your drivers license shows your G class expiry date.

As for the answers to your questions, they are answered above.

While I believe they should give you an extension since your M2 expired during winter when they don't test, you probably cannot now (esp since the expiry has gone by). They would have sent you a notice in the mail months before it expired telling you to book a test.

Good news though you should be able to take the M1X test before the 61 days goes by on your M1 and upgrade quicker since you recently had your M2.

He did listen to the Lady - she told him he had a full year from his birthday - in December, which meant he could take the M2 Exit during the riding season.

As for extending because it expires during the winter, the applicant has some control over that, so I don't think MTO needs to build that in. In this case, by the OP's explanation, it must have expired in February or March, even April. That means he took the course late in the year at Sheridan, and waited several months before taking the AODL in to upgrade (probably because he wasn't riding - it happens all the time.) Expiry is 5 years from when you do the upgrade, so it's worth planning for in advance.

In any case, most of the answers have been provided - you'll have to do the tests, but there is no minimum time before upgrading because you've already done that. The requirement really isn't that you do the test again, but you can only upgrade from a valid licence (or recently expired). The only way to that is to do the test.

Since there are no time requirements, you should be able to do both right away. Write the M1 test inside, go out and do the M1 exit. If you did a course to get your M1, you did the MOST test. You should have no trouble with the M1 exit at a Drivetest Center because they don't even use the MOST. It's way easier.

You're right, it seems like i misread.

Expiry is 5 years from your written.

Expiry is 5 years from your written.

Your M2 is good for five years, from the time you get it, not the time you started the licence process. The written only gives you the M1. Passing the test at Sheridan as the OP did doesn't establish any date with respect to a licence except that because it was a safety course he had up to six months to take the AODL in and go straight to M2. At that point, he would get an M2 and have it for 5 years.

You are correct once again. Direct quote from MTO.

"Once you get your M2 licence, you have up to five years to finish the learning process. After five years, if you do not get your full licence, you will need to start over."

I've had to explain it more times than I can count!
