Hi,

I have an 89 Katana Suzuki GSX 600cc

It has a double exhaust and is heavily leaking from the very bottom chamber looking thing that splits into the two exhausts

Please let me know how I can fix this

Should I tighten the screw? Or should I change the rubber? Or can I just seal it with something? please advise

Was hoping I can fix this one by myself.

Links to tuts or vids also appreciated

I think you have an oil leak that is dripping on the exhaust.
Look directly above the oil spot on the exhaust for the source of the leak. If you can, take a pic and post it in this thread.

I meant a new pic showing what is above the oil on the exhaust.

That is the thing that is leaking oil or gas or I have no idea. I think its gas, cause I have noticed my fuel runs out much quicker

touch it and smell it, see if it smells like oil or gas. if possible, take pictures of whats above that bolt looking up towards the engine

if you want to find the source of the leak, wash down the entire engine with soap, water, and a degreaser, like simple green, then cover it with baby powder and wait for the leak to show up

This.

Also consider taking the fairings off so you can see a little better as to where the source of the problem is.

Or just, after all is washed up and clean and dusted, start the bike and let it idle while on the stand. The leak should become apparent once the bike is fully warmed up. Put your head until and watch for any drops that may start to form and where the source of those drops may be. The source of the leak may actually be well ahead of and above that cross-pipe, and appear on the cross pipe as a result of being blown back by air flow under the bike while riding at speed.

Just as a note, check the obvious and easiest stuff first - oil filter and drain plug. My last (and only) leak on the bike came as a result of the spin-on oil filter not being on quite tight enough. It would leave exactly one drop of oil on the garage floor under the bike each night. If you're lucky, your issue may be as simple.

Check the lines from your oil cooler-- right above the exhaust

check the routing of your overflow tube from the fuel tank, if it is fuel, its probely the overflow, did you just fill up the bike before it started leaking

I found the source and it is exactly this part here. It is leaking from the side and I was wondering if I can just use a sealant to seal it from the outside for now.

Your oil drain plug is just forward of that area, on the bottom of the engine (oil pan). When riding any leakage would be blown back onto that connecting pipe. Check your oil level and see if there's any leakage, around the drain plug. Someone might have re-used the crush washer, giving a bad seal or, even worse, might have cross-threaded or reamed out the threads.

Although your picture does not show it, the oil filter is just above the exhaust. I would think your oil filter is loose.

If it is leaking from that bolt that holds your exhaust together you have a serious problem, because if thats the case you have oil coming from inside the engine and going through your exhaust system?

As far as I can tell, thats just a bolt for the exhaust, no fluids go through that area. It appears that the leak is coming from there just by the way the bike is leaning and the path the oil takes to flow down.

I would give it an ooil change and check as metioned above the oil filter and drain plug as both of those would be my place to check.

when was the last time you did an oil change?

i would drain the oil and inspect the drain plug, washers, threads etc. to ensure there is nothing damaged or out of the ordinary. same with the oil filter. is it a cartridge or canister filter? make sure everything is tight,

First id the fluid -this would steer the discussion a lot asier to the right direction.
Yes.
You know exhausts are full of water, right?
Each side will have a tiny drain hole, at or near the lowest point.
These can easily become plugged when bikes are a few years old.
There can be tons of water if short trips/commutes are occurring every day, and the motor oil is never heated above 100C.
If your exhaust contains water and the drains are plugged, the product of condensation may have started coming out of your muffler crossover (balancer) tube there.
So the leak is either fuel, oil, or water - very important to determine which!
