latest on the new Safety Cert Drive On program...

If anyone is looking for a dodgy last minute safety, Harmanveer Singh Dandiwal has some forms to use up. Only $400 and he doesn't need to see the vehicle.

There will definitely be some benefits to DriveON (although not for Harmanveer).

"Few papers left before rules changes Dm me your ownership and car kilometers"

That's 1 up on Teddy

Had a word with a mechanic on the new safety's and his biggest takeaway was that the MTO is trying to recruit a bunch of new warm bodies if anybody thinks that they meet the qualifications now would be a good time to get a resume off to the MTO.

I asked my local mechanic about certifying my recently purchased 1982 BMW. I take my truck to him and he has certified a couple bikes for me over the years. He said no problem. It just takes a bit more time (and money) and is done on the tablet.

Scammers will always find away around a system.
Yes but it should be almost trivial for MTO to quickly clean things up. The guy in the report found a specific vehicle with a bad safety. That should immediately trigger a review upon reporting it. If his complaint is substantiated (either a review of the submitted information or MTO inspection of the truck), the original shop and mechanic should be kicked from the program. Done. Put the fear of god in them and others will fall in line or be quickly drummed out.

"Should be" indeed. I love your optimism.

I'm hoping it's optimism anyway, and not naivety... Because when I think about the government's effectiveness and their history of laziness, incompetence, and things getting tied up in bureaucracy and lost in the shuffle... I skew towards pessimism...

Hey guys , I live in London . I own a 2001 GSXR750 and went to a local shop for my safety and this man didnt even plug in the tablet gave me a pathetic list of fail items charged me $224 to basically tell me to sell the bike its not worth it...the items failed are a small tear in my left grip , said i had no signals but my rear are integrated front are flush mount , said the hardware for gas tank were missing but they are both there just not OEM , one brake caliper i guess is missing the bleeder cap . Horn didn't work but when i pulled out his lot is sure as hell did work . Also i was missing one of the four screws that hold my chain guard . Am i wrong in thinking this guy did all he could to not do the safety . I busted my ass for months to ride legit i have Insurance license just need tk safety the bike so i can register and plate it...season almost done basically and im about to say **** it and ride dirty...send helpplzzz

You don't need safety for plates or to register it fyi.

Which shop? Sounds like the guy is unreasonable, but he's going by the book on the turn signals. I believe they need to be a minimum distance from the center of the bike to pass. I don't know if they need to be OEM, but they may not notice if you buy an OEM-ish looking set. As for the costs:

- 1 left grip ( a pair is as cheap as $10)
- 4 turn signals ($20-$50 for a set of 4 on the cheap side)
- hardware for gas tank were missing but they are both there just not OEM (what exactly is this hardware?)
- one brake caliper bleeder cap ($1?)
- one of the four screws that hold my chain guard ($1?)

So your bike isn't worth safetying for $60?

You can register the bike in your name without the safety but need the safety in order to get plates. Also without the safety the ownership will read unfit.
No you need insurance for the plates, then you get the temp sticker which is good for 1?2? weeks, this buys you time to get safety. You can 'legally' renew the sticker 3x.

Correct, Unfit - Plated

I wasn't sure if they were still doing temp stickers or if they were just issuing paper temp plates.

Holy, so now that there's no permanent stickers, you can ride dirty, but with a legit plate??? Damn.

EDIT: By dirty, I mean riding an "unfit" bike, even though you have a legit plate, license, and insurance... Wonder what the charge is.

technically this was always the case. the yearly stickers are unrelated.
