KTM RC390 Leaked to world...from Canada!

I actually like the looks but then I started looking at the specs compared to the 25 year old FZR400 I use to ride/race and became sad :(

FZR400 vs RC390
I4 vs thumper
399cc vs 373cc
59hp vs 43hp
157kg vs 147kg

So stock the FZR was heavier by 10kg but also made 16 more hp....In a quarter of a century I would have expected more improvement.

dual disc front brakes as well

If they price it 2x or more the price that it is sold for in other countries we could easily do a group buy of a shipping container full of brand new grey market bikes if we wanted to. Why not? Everyone in the chain is happy because they made money, even KTM.

Sounds like good idea but I am sure there are a bunch of reasons why it wouldn't happen.

Would be interesting to know what it would cost with shipping, insurance, etc.

Why do people always judge bikes by HP numbers? FZR400 brakes and suspension are crap by modern standards.

You people are off your rockers. No one is going to spend almost 10 gs on a 44 hp bike.

It makes no sense that they would import a 390cc bike to save $125 in insurance, then attempt to charge anything over $7K, for a single.

The 1190 RC8 is in the exotic bike category, completely different markets and pricing, demographics.

Pinkie stoppies on my single disk SMC.

Check out the toruqe line on the KTM.

This bike would be awesome in some places in the world. 40 something HP is mord than plenty if you live in the mountains. In Flatterio I would not touch this bike but in BC it would be awesome.

Good suspension, brakes, frame... etc cost the same on any size bike. Knowing KTM they probally went all out.

How many Moto Guzzi V7 Racers do yo see on the roads? Extremely few. It's a rich boy's toy that gets ridden on warm sunny weekends.

The KTM 200 has dual OHC, shims under buckets. No rockers.

Nice. Did they, or do they plan, to implement that in their big singles? Those engines are great except the stupid rockers. There is a guy on SMJ with over 60K MILES on his 625 smc. He went through a LOT of rollers. Max 20k KM on those rollers.

Someone want to explain this roller rocker stuff? Scares me that something in the engines of some KTM's needs replacing every 20k

Basically it's a time bomb. Quite easy to do it preventivly, but if the bearing seizes or blows you will need a new camshaft and possibly rockers. If done preventivly you can press out the old bearings, so the job costs $30. If you have an LC4 I can help you out ;)

Never pass an opportunity to Harley bash I see. Who are the last to put away their bikes for winter? Harley and other cruiser riders and BMW guys.

Yea cuz they have FAT tires in the back. Gives them traction in the cold :)

Except the Canadian KTM dealer!

No one cares. The point is most motorcycles in Ontario are sunny-day toys, not used for essential transportation.

While the stock FZR suspension is crap by modern premium-sportbike standards, they're no crappier than found on a good many built-to-a-price bikes today - notably, to pick but one example, SV650 forks are pretty bad. The KTM125/250/390 series is built-to-a-price ... want to know why - just look in this thread at the people complaining about the likely price tag even though they don't know what it is yet.

FZR suspension is very easily upgraded ... that's pretty likely to be the case for the KTM RC series, too ... and light weight forgives a multitude of other sins.

I really like the RC390 and if I didn't already have too many bikes, I'd want one.
