Knowing Better

My OCD has me getting the bike up on stands to get the tires off the ground with bonus points if the stand unloads the suspension.

I've never had 17" sport tires flat spot over the winter. I do store my Ducati on its rear stand for the winter, but that's actually to make space by storing the stand under the bike.

Yea i hear you its a ocd thing like brushing my teeth after every meal even though i haven't had a cavity in this century.

Your idea of winterizing is basically the same as mine - do nothing out of the ordinary. The only difference I see is the use of fuel stabilizer, which in my experience with fuel injected motors (both cars and bikes) makes no difference for such short term storage. My M3 was last filled up in 2018, and it still starts fine on the gas in the tank, although this year it is starting to sound a little rough and I'll be draining the tank to use in my mower. But that's 7 years, nevermind 3 months.

See the thing is, I'm really ******* cheap lol.

Couple ounces of stabilizer costs less than fresh gas, let alone replacing an injector if things do get gunked up.

Cheap man says just buy the stabilizer.

Cheaper guys says don't. None of my bikes have ever complained.

That's just being short term cheap. Short term cheap is okay short term, but long term cheap is cheap forever.

Winners don't go half assed, so don't half ass cheapness. Go full ass and be cheap forever like a champ.

How about your lawnmowers and other yard equipment? That stuff hates varnish and water.

I don't use Stabil at all. How is that not long term cheap?

I reuse crush washers. Trust me I'm full assed cheap

The genny and snowblower are idle way longer than the mower. The garage isn’t heated. Ask a small engine shop how many units they get that won’t start or run each year and the reason why. Crap gas and not getting used.

As for the hobby toys, every winter during sometime of each month, I find a reason to take them for a ride/drive.

I used to store the car each winter and found it unbearable. Made the arrangement to be last in and first out but, found some warm clear days I was sulking like a baby.

Yes, there is brine, salt, sand, crap, and I typically avoid most of it.

That because you don't need stabil in cheapass push mowers or hand rakes.
My snowblower gets the same treatment along with my power washer.

The power washer might sit for a couple years unused with whatever bit of gas that was left. It was a little grumpy last time but a shot of quick start and it fired up and ran like a champ.

Haven't done this yet, but mid Nov. I add stabilizer, fill the tank, change the oil and filter, put on center stand, connect to tender and cover. Given the time and hassle you might have if the gas goes stale it makes no sense to me to save $10 by skipping the stabilizer step. As said above, it takes 10 seconds to add stabilizer at the gas station before it gets topped up. I buy the stabilizer at CT in September or October when I'm already there, no special trip.

On carbed engines they all get stabilizer and an oil change at the end of the season. My 35 year old Craftsman snowblower is a 1 or 2 pull first start if I've put stabilizer in it the previous spring. If I forgot, then my punishment is having to pull the carb and clean it. 100% of the time, no exceptions.

My 250ml container of stabilizer lasts a year for all engines, cheap insurance IMO

One thing I'm thankful for today is riding the bike home to Mississauga from the cottage 10 days ago. Was thinking no rush, maybe try and squeeze in a last ride on the 507 this week before heading back on the 14th............. Crazy weather.

Not sure what the problem is?

The fine denizens of the Dirty 'Shwa have been storing their vehicles this way for generations now...
