knocked over bkes

Does the job come with a bullet proof vest? Especially to the person going out and confront the driver who knocked the bike over.

From those better versed in law here then I am... what are the legal implications of setting up this type of operation and recording to educate?

What are the legal implications to staging an accident?
Are you going to pay for any damages done to the other persons vehicle?

You are just setting yourself up for a lawsuit.

how do you consider it a staged accident if the vechicle is registered and park legally, but just observed? nobody is faking the bike to be knocked over

So your not parking it after another car is parked hoping he won't see it but rather waiting hours, maybe days for someone to hit it?

This is a really REALLY bad idea

maybe, but why? realize I posed the question to provoke discussion debate. If you read the posts about bike knocked over we are always posed with the outcome being "sucks to be you" as I noted and has been stated time and time again, even with photo evidence as in the recent thread, the courts will support that it could have already been knocked over. So the answer is you are just ***** out of luck.

lots of people say that would do this and that if they caught someone causing damage to their bike, so this is a means to look at the problem with a low risk vehicle with no "emotional" attachment to a particular rider.

what if a driver who kncks a bike over is not confronted or educated, can video/photos be provided to a news organization?

Ok fine you catch one guy that knocks over a bike. How will that stop any other bikes from being knocked over.
Bottom line is that this is a terrible idea that will cause more issues that it will solve.
So yes if your bike gets knocked over it does suck to be you, but that's why we have insurance.
Besides that there really isn't much else you can do but be aware of were you park your bike and keep in mind not everyone can park a cage.

Yeah, this type of deterrant usually works well when people don't fully understand the severity of consequences to their actions. A good example are the simulation tests people can take where they attempt to drive and text, or graphic PSA's which show the morbid consequences of not being sensible.

People don't treat knocking over a parked bike the way they do, say, drunk driving, for example. At worst the consequences are a major inconveneice, not a lost or impared life. This would just add to the problem, because it's not better demonstrating the consequences or fault. Just people throwing **** fits and attempting to call out drivers on their inability to park. If that's what you want to do, go find bikes already parked and wait.

Or put out a nice hog and have a rather burley man come out of the bush with a chain wound around his fist. That'll scare some people :P

Hmm... don't you guys have like... jobs?

Better watch out Houghtonator.. you posted your gif on the most over moderated forum in the world LOL

Impending post deletion in... 5...4..3..

I get what you're saying. It would be nice to have an alternative to 'too bad'. And wouldn't it be grand if people took responsibility for their actions!! But go and ask a metro cop what he thinks will happen if you run up to someone, jam a camera in their face, say 'Excuse me sir, you just tipped that bike over' and then proceed to 'educate' them. I'll tell you right now that it WILL get to a news organization, but it'll be under the headline "Vigilante hospitalized after confontation"

wasted, maybe my definition of "education" is differernt then yours and left to too much interpretation. I was not intending anything vigilante style or an ambush with cameras. This intent is to be able to move beyond a wasn't me stance...

As many people have pointed out, we unforunatley live in a world that chooses to accept that when something bad happens to them as simply a life lesson and not something that be corrected.

I am curious how long OP would hav to wait. I haven't decided if it would take days or about 5 minutes.
