it's a bit of a game. The funny part is when you say you're firm on a price and they make the trip and then try to lowball and get the reply "nope". They wasted their gas and travel time...I just wasted a few minutes.

lol it's the internet...there's no such thing as "etiquette".
the beauty of online sales is that it takes you all of what?...5 seconds to skim a lowball email that you perceive to be insulting then click the 'delete' button... you're under no obligation whatsoever to acknowledge or reply, there's no awkward confrontation that many people detest when it comes to face to face sales..
like previous posters have said - don't take it personally, every one out there is trying to make (or save) a buck.... I know of some people that basically LIVE off of Ebay/Kijiji/Craigslist by buying/selling. It's all a game and they're very, very good at it.

Ohh Kijiji flakes - what fun. I am looking for a bike and found one that was interesting in Midland, which is about 1hr away for me. I emailed the guy said I was interested and could come up Friday to look at the bike (i think I emailed him on the Wednesday). He replied back that Friday was good and to text him when I got there. So I drive up to Midland, send him a text asking where we could meet, after 30min of me sitting in Timhortons he replies that he was out of town. I havent heard back from him since then and dont feel like dealing with a flake. The bike is still up on Kijiji so I am assuming that he didnt sell.
Midland story #2 - I posted up my Ipod touch for $50. I get a reply with an offer of $60 if I can deliver it to Midland (keep in mind this is a 100km drive) I decline, but offer to mail it, she would get it probably in 2 days. No Paypal so she declines. A few hours later I get another email reply to my ad "$60 if I can deliver it to Midland" same girl!
My wife and I have bought and sold quite a few things on Kijiji and 90% are pleasant but every so often you just get idiots.

Although I have done a few "can you deliver" deals, it hasn't always gone well. In fact I just sold my iPhone, guy emails, offers $20 below, I say ok and let's meet, he says oooops no car can you deliver for full price, sure - it's a 10 min ride, from the time he emailed to sold took about 30 min. Another guy left me sitting at Timmies a couple days before that for the same phone and was offering less $.
A few years ago, guy wanted to buy my golf clubs, I called him just before leaving to make sure we were still on, 10 min later I ended up knocking on his door for 5 min before leaving. Called him back to get VM. I don't get this. Why bother emailing, haggling and setting up a meet only to not be there.
Delivery doesn't always work out but I find that you usually get a feeling if it will or not by talking to them on the phone. Also delivery isn't free - this isn't pizza pizza. Don't offer 60% of asking and expect delivery.
Some of the emails and offers are definitely out there but I will say that everyone that I've ever actually sold anything to on Kijiji seemed to be normal and reasonable.

How would you know that he didn't sell it between Weds and Friday?
Sorry but there is no way I would have driven an hour without confirming again on the Friday that he still had it and would be available.

Sellers on kijiji can be just as much of a D-nozzle as buyers can. Looking for an economical car to use as a commuter. Phoned 3 people Saturday and left messages. Nothing. Phoned 2 of them again this morning. One had a message on their voicemail with instructions to leave a message or text. Left a text. Neither one responded. Left an email with some guy in Guelph Thursday asking if the KTM he's reposted 3 times in the last month had an ownership and was blue plate-able. No response. If you're selling something, is it too much to ask that you actually respond when a buyer comes a callin'?
