Why? Why do people wear being "busy" like some sort of medal? If their life is so full of "stuff" that they cant spend half an hour walking their children to school.. then their life sucks.
Well said - couldn't agree more. Life's too short as it is.

Ah, I see. As an outsider looking in (busy as I want to be, no kids) I feel many people follow the script per the Joneses.

being "busy, stressed, tired, up late" etc. is a badge of honour to show how "important" a person is. A lot of people get their self-worth from how important others see them.
lousy kids, more like dumbass parents. hell, my wife (b. '87) was driven to school from k-12. her elementary was less than a 10min walk, even for an 7 yo. her high school was a >15min city bus ride. and the stop was right outside her door.
i walked to school almost everyday through kindergarten (10min tops), rode my bike day from gr 1-8, rode on warm days in highschool. my bus ride for highschool was 1:30, way faster to ride bike. stupid rural bus routes.
we now live a 5 min walk from my kids' future school. i like to think they'll be walking alone from sk on, since we can see all the way to the school doors
The walk home was always full of adventures and shenanigans.
Always got in trouble for doddling home (usually with a soaker from playing in the creek half way).1988!!! Yikes that makes me feel old.I started kindergarten at McCowan Rd PS in 1958! The walk was a bit under 1km,but i prolly made it 2km.Always went home for peanut butter sammiches.I started Kindergarten in '88 and school was 1.2km away. I would walk with my brother who was in grade two in the morning then get picked up at lunch. In grade 1 I walked both ways. No big deal. Everyone walked.
Is it just me or is the walk to/from school part of childhood? The walk home was always full of adventures and shenanigans.
Don't know how a parent would deal with this little guy.Arrrrggghhh!!!!

Backhand him. Its a parent's duty to discipline their children. It adds structure to their lives. The most schools can do now is send the children to the principle office and home, which is like a reward because it gets them out of learning and school. I don't plan to have children but if an accident ever does occur, I will have a bag of sweet Valencia oranges ready to keep him/her in check. It'll show them who's boss and won't leave a mark.
"I'm the mom and I'm the boss."? On what planet? If I had have said "listen to me Jean, honey." to my mother at that age I woulda had one hella sore ear.
Trying to reason with children who don't have the cognitive skills developed leads to the type of **** parents are dealing with now.
Its the the same as watching adults try to reason with their pets. What is wrong with you? Dogs are pack animals and they understand structure, hierarchy and punishment/reward. It is the same with children. They want to push the limits to see how far they can go.
It's this can't hit your kids and timeout bs. Time out when I was a kid meant dad was tired from whippin your ads but he'd resume in a minute. I think If I ever threatened to phone children's aid or sue my parents they'd have dug a hole in the yard for me
